[THE REBIRTH OF NOTRE DAME]

Join us as we partner up with the World Affairs Council to bring you an exciting event, The Rebirth of Notre-Dame!

On April 15, 2019, the world watched in shock as the Notre-Dame Cathedral, one of the oldest beacons of faith in the world and the site of important events in European history burned in Paris, France. Under reconstruction and closed to the public for the past five years, the cathedral will reopen this December. The Council welcomes Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris President Michel Picaud as he describes his personal experiences from the day of the fire, the steps that have been taken to restore the cathedral, and the plans to achieve full restoration of Notre Dame before the end of the decade.

FRANCE - TEXAS : A LONG LASTING LOVE STORY
🌍 Discover the Legacy of La Réunion Colony in Texas!🇫🇷✨

Join us on October 5th in Dallas for a unique symposium hosted by the Alliance Française de Dallas, celebrating the fascinating history of the La Réunion colony!
Established by French, Belgian, and Swiss immigrants in 1855, La Réunion was a bold experiment in communal living, blending ideals of socialism, cooperation, and artistic expression.

This special event follows the recent English publication of "The Road to Texas", By Victor Considérant (Deep Vellum), translated from the French by Paola Tettamanzi Buckley, Professeur at SMU and President of the Alliance Française de Dallas. A must-read that uncovers the journey of the founder of the colony, and provides a glimpse into his ambitions and visions.

This Symposium will bring together historians, descendants of the colony, and enthusiasts to discuss the colony's origins, its cultural and economical impact on the region, and the lessons it offers for Dallas contemporary society. Through presentations, panel discussions, and rare archival exhibits, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of this fascinating chapter in Dallas' history.

-It is famous worldwide for its quiche, macarons, Mirabelle plum and madeleine
-it has a rich heritage and is known for its culture and refinement. It has prestigious national museums, stained glass windows by Marc Chagall, and Art Nouveau works in Nancy. The Longwy fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Don't miss Lafayette's 1824 Farewell Tour of America with Roger Mummert, presenter of popular past events on the history of Paris, the mysteries of the Bastille and D-Day!

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the Marquis de Lafayette's 1824 tour, Roger Mummert will give a presentation to talk about the “Hero of Two Worlds”, on August 27 from 3pm to 4pm (GMT-5 Eastern Time). In this presentation, we examine how Lafayette was promoted to mythical status by the burgeoning American newspaper industry, against the backdrop of a disputed presidential election that tested American values. We also look at how Lafayette’s outspoken support for the abolition of slavery challenged Americans to continue to work toward “a more perfect union.”

[OLYMPIC GAME NIGHT] ABOU MAMADOU SOW

Many thanks to our special guest Abou Mamadou Sow, a Senegalese sprinter who came last Thursday to l'Alliance Française de Dallas to share his personal experience at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Merci to all who joined us, we had such a great moment together learning about the Olympics' history and Pierre de Coubertin; and also about the context of the Munich Games in 1972.

Yesterday was a very important day in Paris as the Olympic opening ceremony kicked off! We are so ready for this majestic event! Who watched the ceremony?

The Hall of Mirrors in Versailles is renowned for its stunning, sparkling design as well as being the site where the Treaty of Versailles was signed and brought an end to the First World War.

Did you know that when fully lit, it's illuminated with 3000 candles and is covered in a total of 357 Venetian mirrors?!

Let's talk about the Olympics with a Special Guest: ABOU MAMADOU SOW

Join us on Thursday, July 25th from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at l'Alliance Française de Dallas as we get the chance to listen to Abou Mamadou Sow, a 1972 Track & Field Olympian. He ran the 4x400 meter relay representing his beautiful country Senegal during the Olympics in Munich.

On the programme this evening:
1. You'll hear about the Olympics' history and Pierre de Coubertin; and also about the context of the Munich Games in 1972.
2. You'll also learn about Abou Mamadou Sow's personal experience at the 1972 Munich Olympics (selection in the Senegalese team & his trainings)
