This morning, Christman Facility Solutions dropped off two boxes of back-to-school supplies and backpacks for students across the Dallas region! Their partnership and support are making a difference in students' lives and setting them up for a successful school year. ππποΈ
Several of our ACE Site Coordinators attended a Meet the Teacher night to inform parents about our afterschool programs! Pictured are Natalie at the Young Men's Leadership Academy at Florence Middle School in Dallas ISD, Abril, Marlen, and Devorah who are part of the ACE team in Terrell ISD (Bruce Wood Elementary, Gilbert Willie Elementary, and JW Long Elementary), and Abril at Bruce Wood Elementary.

Plano ISD and the City of Plano hosted a resource fair on Aug. 1 at the Plano Event Center. Several community sponsors gathered to ensure students in need had backpacks filled with supplies, food, health care screenings, haircuts, and much more! This morning we had a pep rally on the lawn of WFAA to cheer on the schools we serve as we prepare for the new school year! We were joined by the drumline from Skyline High School who kept the pep in our step with their beats, and were fueled on to kindness by La La Land Kind Cafe who brought pastries, waved signs, and continued to show up for us and our students. Thanks to our CEO, Adam Powell and our Board Chair, Luisa del Rosal for giving interviews and sharing the good work of CIS!
Dr. Summer Rose sits down with NBC 5's Vince Sims to talk about the role of the Clinical Team at CIS Dallas and prioritizing Mental Health for our students. By offering services in schools, we remove the barrier to care that often prevents students from receiving care, missing classes to attend appointments, and fighting the stigma of getting mental health assistance. The highlight of Project Ops this week was a panel this morning featuring thought leaders in education and mental health, Bob Mong (Former President of UNT), Byron Sanders (President and CEO of Big Thought), and Dr. Jessica Gomez (Executive Director at Momentous Institute), moderated by the incomparable Lady Jade. From start to finish, they shared inspiring personal stories about mentors who impacted their education and life, and gave words of wisdom about moving forward in an ever-changing world. Our staff felt energized and encouraged by their thoughtful words and advice.
Mallory McLaughlin, our 21st Century ACE Program Director, is a featured presenter at the Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC Summer Symposium in San Francisco! Focusing on continuous improvement in all professions requires building on knowledge from the past. Mallory will lead βIdeas for Cultivating Culture with Site Coordinatorsβ changing how the directors lead their site coordinators throughout the year with consistency, transparency, and accountability.
Day two of staff training has been full of information from our Clinical team, featuring a guest speaker from CPS, to help us learn about handling sensitive situations. But it hasn't been all work; we've had time to take pictures, connect with colleagues, and play a few games. We're and hope you'll join us in supporting our students in the upcoming year.
