As part of our Kwanzaa Celebration on December 28th, this amazing documentary will be featured throughout the day.
A documentary about the struggle and triumph of African-American family, community, and culture, using Kwanzaa as a vehicle to celebrate the African-American experience. The seven principles of Kwanzaa (unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith) are so important to African-Americans today. The documentary explores the holiday's growth out of the Black Power Movement in the 1960s to its present-day reality as a global, pan-African holiday embraced by over 40 million celebrants.

The Hall of Negro Life was officially dedicated in 1936 to celebrate Juneteenth, the anniversary of the date that African-American Texans learned they were freed from slavery. This exhibition hall acknowledged and honored the history and accomplishments of African-Americans in the United States with a large collection of art by Black artists, including murals that celebrated Black Culture. Even with this success, the Hall of Negro Life was deconstructed one year after its opening.
From 1937 until the 1990s there was no African American presence on the State Fair grounds. In the 90s there was a push to have an African American presence on the fair ground and the African American Museum of Dallas was built on the land that once held the Hall of Negro Life.
