The last meeting to give in-person input on the City of Dallas' proposed eviction ordinance is on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 6:00 pm at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. Landlords were out in force at the meeting on 2/16. After listening to them oppose the ordinance, a TTU rep spoke in favor of it and was soon heckled. They didn't do themselves any favors behaving that way in front of the City Council Member who was in the room. If you live in Dallas and want tenant protections, come to the meeting!
Here is an excerpt from our follow-up survey. An attorney from Legal Aid of Northwest Texas represented her in court. This is just part of our work at TTU, but it had a tremendous impact on the life of this mom and her 3 children.

Texas is one of few states without a law requiring landlords to give a notice before entry. House Bill 1820 by State Representative Terry Meza would change that. Thank you Rep. Meza!
As cities in Texas try to prevent , landlords try to prohibit them from enacting or enforcing local protections. HB 2035 was filed in the Texas Legislature today by Rep. Shelby Slawson (R-Copperas Cove/Gatesville/Stephenville).
We talk to tenants like Ms. Mosley every day - $1200 Social Security check & $900 rent. Sometimes the numbers are even worse. Meanwhile, the Governor & Lt Governor want to give tax breaks to homeowners. We haven't seen their proposal to address & . Tenants pay taxes, too.

Good news out of Washington for tenants. Here are a couple highlights. 1) The federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) will launch a new public process to examine proposed actions promoting renter protections and limits on egregious rent increases for future investments. 2) The Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will look at the creation and use of tenant background checks, the use of algorithms in tenant screenings, the provision of adverse action notices by landlords and property management companies, and how an applicant’s source of income factors into housing decisions. This is part of a broader set of federal actions that are laid out in a Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights,
In a separate announcement, more rent relief money will be coming to Dallas, Arlington, Austin, San Antonio, Harris County and the State of Texas. See more in the comments section.
