๐ŸŒŸ Jason Barnes: A Journey of Transformation with ASD ๐ŸŒŸ
Jason Barnesโ€™s story is a powerful example of the impact AIDS Services of Dallas (ASD) has on lives. After arriving in Dallas and facing homelessness, Jasonโ€™s life changed when he connected with ASD in 2021, thanks to the persistence of Miss Tiffany. Despite a two-year wait, Jason found a sense of family and stability at ASD, eventually becoming a floor captain.

ASD has not only provided Jason with housing but also the resources and support to rebuild his life. From the vocational programs to the compassionate care of our staff, including Chef David (aka "Super Dave") and others, Jason has been able to secure rent assistance, maintain his independence, and plan for a bright future. As he moves into his own place, Jason is excited for what lies ahead, including getting pets and staying active. He advises new residents to find a hobby and embrace the community at ASD.

Jasonโ€™s journey shows how ASD doesnโ€™t just provide housingโ€”we help individuals re-enter society healthy, sober, and with purpose.

๐ŸŒˆโœจ Happy International LGBTQ Pride Day! โœจ๐ŸŒˆ
Today, we celebrate love, diversity, and the power of community. As we honor the strides made towards equality and remember the struggles overcome, we also recognize the ongoing efforts to support and uplift our community.
We remember the anniversary of the Stonewall protest on this day in 1969 and celebrate the brave individuals who stood up for equality. Led in part by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, the uprising laid the foundation for LGBTQIA+ activism in the U.S. The fight continues, and our commitment remains strong.
At AIDS Services of Dallas (ASD), we are committed to providing housing and supportive services to individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive with dignity and respect.
This Pride Day, letโ€™s celebrate the progress weโ€™ve made and continue to stand together in solidarity. We are proud to be part of a community that champions love, acceptance, and support for all.

Hope Lives Here...

The story of AIDS Services of Dallas (ASD) is one of challenge and triumph.

ASD traces its beginning to 1985, when two men living with AIDS, Daryl Moore and Michael Merdian, helped form the core of what would become the PWA (People With AIDS) Coalition of Dallas (PWACD). Little was known about AIDS on a national stage, except among the astute medical community and some gay activists. By 1985, the Dallas County Health Department had recorded 125 cases and 123 deaths, and internationally, AIDS had been reported in 51 countries.

That same year, Rock Hudson thrust AIDS into the national spotlight, becoming the first major public figure known to die from AIDS, and Ryan White, a 13-year-old hemophiliac, was banned from his Indiana school because he had been diagnosed with AIDS. In response to the increasing stigma facing people with AIDS, cities like Dallas began to organize community-based organizations to care for the sick and dying. Organizations like the PWA Coalition of Dallas adopted a self-empowerment philosophy and provided a support network to combat the backlash of public and media misperceptions about HIV and AIDS.
