Words from George......

This rocket was found by a neighbor who lives on the other side of the "pond". Not sure how long ago.

If anyone recognizes it, knows who flew it, sound off!

Arlington launch a "go" on Sunday.....more details from Dave (see below).

Sunday 2 June from 10AM to 2PM at the usual NW Green Oaks location. D impulse limit as always.

The field has been mowed which is good or the vetch would have been impossible. But the forecast is wet so the field could be soggy. We will try anyway so be careful as there are low areas where there is likely to be standing water. Including near/at where we usually park.

**DARS Business Meeting....Saturday, June 1

This is Suzy....I'm posting this reminder of the DARS business meeting for George. George is still without power after the storms on Tuesday.

Starting at 1 PM at the YMCA, 2021 Cross Timbers Rd. Flower Mound 75028

Check in at the front desk is required by the YMCA.

There are still a few DARS shirts that need to be picked up. Some that are paid for...some that need to be paid for. If you made an order for a shirt months ago...but, haven't paid for it yet....I will be holding those for only another month. At which point, I will sell the shirts to those that are interested with money in hand!
I can also take care of those memberships.....new members and those renewing. Just remember....we do cash or checks.

Thanks...see you Saturday!

We had a couple of high power flights.....Tiagan Koob (left) and Johnny Bohmier (right). Johnny's rocket was his Level 2 certification flight. Rocket was named Juno II....Juno for his cat!!

Photos from Dallas Area Rocket Society's post 05/27/2024

Now for some odd rockets that flew......George Sprague flew his pyramid and John Dyer had his tri-f-o.

05/27/2024

We had a father/daughter drag race with the Lehockys (Kat's on the right with Stephen's on the left)....in all the excitement of how fast, which direction....I'm not sure we ever declared a winner!! Was it Kat or was it Stephen? As of this posting....Kat did get her rocket back on Saturday. They spent time after the launch looking for Stephen's rocket...no joy! Stephen was going to go on "walk about" to find it today.

Photos from Dallas Area Rocket Society's post 05/27/2024

Mid-power pads.....rocket on the right was flown by Jack Sprague. He had a walk to get that one. It was on the other side of the field....through the muck and mud in the middle of the field. It was difficult to see the little orange chute because of the tallness of the grass. But, he finally made it back with rocket in hand!

The Arlington launch is scheduled for Sunday, June 2. The last time the Arlington site was used, the grass had gotten pretty tall. Since there has been so much rain...it's probably gotten even taller! So, George put a message out on the DARS Forum......
Is there anyone who lives close enough that can swing by and report on the condition of the field, and possibly include a picture?

Some words from George about the Gunter launch......

Fun launch!

Small crowd, quite a few newcomers, comfortable temperature, breezy, and the high humidity stayed away until we were breaking down.

Big thanks to all the range crew and volunteers who got the range set up and packed at the end of the day.

We had everything from High Power to Micromaxx flights!

88 total flights: 72 mod rocs, 13 mid power and 3 high power flights, to include Johnny Bohmier's successful Level 2 flight on an AT J-435.

We had a great launch today in Gunter. It never got as hot as we were expecting. A big bonus!! It did start getting more humid about 1pm. It was a smaller group this launch...but, we still had plenty of great flights!! Thank you to all who helped with the set up this morning and taking down this afternoon. All that work was greatly appreciated!! More details about the launch a little later.

A little info on field conditions from Justin Poe and the kids......

Field Condition update - as of 24 May 2024 around 9am
The kiddos and I were in Prosper this morning and figured we were close enough…
Grass has NOT been mowed
Still pretty tall but yellowing and some areas have fallen down (maybe from the rain)
Creeks, ditches, lakes, and ponds all have lots of water in them so expect mud near the creek

Launch scheduled from 10AM to 2 PM.

Expect humidity and heat, so come prepared!

Fliers are required to provide Flight Cards for each flight. These will be available at the launch, or print and fill out at home from this link:

Keep your flight card until your pad is called, then present it to the Launch Control person.

High Power fliers please bring your NAR or TRA certification cards. HP flying fee is $10.00 for DARS members, $20.00 for non members. Cash or check only. If you have special launch equipment needs, or you are attempting a certification flight please contact George or Sam prior to the launch.

Thank you in advance for assisting in running the range; time slots available at the Registration Tent. Those that do will receive Stash Bucks, good towards the purchase of Stash items.

A donation bucket will be available to help with the cost of the portapotty.

Just wanted to share some of the high power flights from Sunday. Both of these rockets were built at Northwest High School in their two aerospace classes. The one on the left is Period 1 called the Flamingo rocket. The one on the right is from Period 3 called the Penguin rocket. The class project was the "1 to 34"....means build a high power rocket with a 1 pound payload to 3400 ft. The Flamingo flew on a J250FJ (Fast Jack...dark black smoke). The Penguin flew on a J315R (Red). All pictures are from Billy James.

The CAP Thunderbolt Composite Squadron came out to Gunter to fly their rockets with DARS. They had some great flights!

A few words from George about the launch yesterday......

Sunny, but a bit of a chill wind. Low attendance, but those who showed up had an enjoyable day.

55 Mod Roc flights, 2 Mid Power, 4 High Power, 3 (T)ARC flights for a total of 64 flights

Congrats to Daniel Hoover on a successful Level 2 cert flight, Wildman Punisher on an ATJ250W. Took a little while to retrieve it, but it did get retrieved!

Northwest High School made it to the (T)ARC finals; they showed up to practice in preparation for their contest attempts in May.

Billy James experienced a muddy adventure, attempting to help a CAP cadet find her rocket. The mighty Jeep was not mightier than the mud; after a long time of pushing, pick up truck trying to haul it out of the muck, giant farm tractor vehicle came out to finally haul the Jeep out.

Not sure which was muddier - the Jeep or Billy!
