I love this hommage to Paul Desmond's "Take Five" by Michael Franks called "Hearing Take 5". It's about remembering the first time he heard Take 5, but it includes so many cool references to what was going on during that time period. The song, like Take Five, is in 5/4 time and also has rather modern chord changes with 2/5/1's to Ab, C, and E in the verse. The intro really plays around with a "5 motif" (1,2,3....45; 1,2,3,4...5; 1,2,3...45 1,2,3,4,5,)---and of course great musicians on the recording. I arranged it for my ensemble at the college.
