Our school is thrilled to announce the incredible success of this year's Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. Each homeroom came together to collect all types of coins and cash, with students using their knowledge of grouping by 10s to help count the change. Many students generously donated from their own piggy banks, and parents often matched these contribution to create a total collection of $4,019, more than doubling last year's total!
Our thoughtful students honored loved ones affected by cancer by writing names on paper cancer ribbons, coloring them according to the cancer type, and displaying them on our front bulletin board. Although the funds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation, we recognized all cancers. While cancer stories are unfortunately common among us, the generosity of our families fueled our fight against this disease. We thank our STM family for reaching out to make a difference in the world.
Almost a year ago, one of our beloved Kindergarten teachers, Cynthia Hardegree, was delighted to find a familiar name on her roster…the daughter of her former high school teacher, Mrs. O! “It was very exciting to run into Cynthia in the kindergarten classroom when my husband and I were on a tour at STM. I think we were both shocked to see each other after so long! It may have swayed my decision to eventually apply to STM. ;) We were very happy that our daughter was placed in her class, and Cynthia’s been such a blessing in her life,” Mrs. O shared.
Mrs. O came to know Ms. Hardegree well in high school as both her Pre-Calculus and homeroom teacher. Mrs. O remembered, “Cynthia was also a blessing in my classroom. She was a great student, hardworking, mature and so kind. Of course, teachers don’t have favorites, but if we did, she’d be on the top of the list. I also had the pleasure of watching her perform beautifully in The Nutcracker. I think I could’ve predicted back when she was 17 that she’d be a great teacher who’d touch many lives one day.” We couldn’t agree more, Mrs. O! This heartwarming reunion at STM reminds us of the profound and lasting impact teachers have, as they shape the minds and futures of their students.
Check out our bald eagles! Happy 4th of July!
We want to thank our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive parents for a fantastic year filled with growth, joyful learning, faith, and service. We wish you all a safe and joyful summer. God bless you!
Smiles were all around at our Kindergarten Celebration of Learning! The future 1st graders were excited to perform their songs and share their favorite moments of the year to the packed church. Afterward, they received awards and accolades for a year of joyful learning and headed with their families to celebrate in a reception just for them. Listen to their sweet voices singing the "Saint Thomas More School Song."
"Oh we wake up in the morning, and we go to Saint Thomas More School;
Where we learn to read and write, and we apply the Golden Rule;
And when we leave there in the afternoon, with a feeling of success;
We're never really satisfied unless we've done our very best."
- Written by former STM kindergarten teacher, Kathy Merritt, with love
During May, we dove into Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month with excitement as we explored the vibrant cultures of . This year's theme, Celebrating AANHPI Culture through Art, inspired by the Asian Art Museum collection, energized our Media, Art, and STREAM educators, who lined up engaging projects throughout the month. Families also were encouraged to share their experiences and discoveries of AANHPI culture across Georgia by submitting photos, drawings, or other expressions. Examples of submissions were trying delicious dishes at AANHPI restaurants, reading books by AANHPI authors and creating drawings based on the stories, and researching local cultural festivals and crafting art inspired by these events. We celebrated the colorful tapestry of our world together and discovered the wonders of AANHPI cultures right here in Georgia!
Our two precious Pre-K classes crossed over to kindergarten in their "Bridging Ceremony!" This year, they learned so much about God and themselves, and they grew so much. When asked what they were looking forward to in kindergarten next year, one child said, “My kindergarten teacher,” and another said, “Doing some learning.” Well, we can’t wait to have these brand new kindergartners back for some more joyful learning next year! Watch to the end to see them "cross the bridge."
Happy Memorial Day! 🇺🇸

We’re having such big bittersweet feelings as we’re preparing to graduate these 8th graders. Getting to know, teach, and learn from this over the last 9 years has been a privilege and a joy!
Only 3 more days until our 8th graders graduate! We love and are so proud of these students! Here are a few we’re celebrating today. Keep checking back as we continue to celebrate all our 8th graders.
Happy Mother's Day! For our heartwarming celebration of mothers and mother figures, the 5th graders took center stage, leading a beautiful Mass and reception. In reading poems penned straight from the heart, they moved many to tears and smiles, showcasing their deep love and appreciation. The melodies of their songs filled the air, honoring the incredible women who shape their lives. Lord, bless all the wonderful women who care for and influence us in our lives. Amen.
Watch to the end to hear their angelic voices singing. 👼
Every day we are reminded how much our 8th graders have learned, grown, and become people who will make a difference in this world. We love and are so proud of these students! Here’s a few we’re celebrating today. Keep checking back over the next week as we continue to celebrate all our 8th graders.
Happy National School Nurse Day to our very own Nurse Finley! Our students' frequent requests to visit Nurse Finley is a testament to her kind and loving spirit. Thank you, Nurse Finley, for always being a comfort to our students!
How can there be only 10 days left until graduation?! We quickly are approaching our 8th graders’ last day at STM. We love and are so proud of them! Here’s a few we’re celebrating today. Keep checking back over the next two weeks as we continue to celebrate all our 8th graders.
Honoring Mary as the “Queen of Heaven,” Pre-K adorned our garden Blessed Mother statue with a crown of flowers and placed a bouquet at her feet. 🌹
What a lovely surprise when we arrived today! We could heart-ly wait to read these colorful, heartfelt student notes. We’re pumped that it’s Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week and already are blown away by all the love coming our way. Thank you to our supportive parents for making us feel so special this week and all throughout the year. 💕
We would never talk trash on 🌎 Earth Day, but we'll talk composting! To continue caring for our environment this year, we launched our Compost Initiative with to reduce our cafeteria landfill* waste. We’re grateful to the parents who’ve taught our students to identify the correct bin for trash, compost, and recycling to dispose of their lunchtime waste. Let's keep caring for our planet, STM Tigers!
*Did you know that in the United States, it's estimated that between 30-40% of the food supply ends up in landfills? Composting is one way to divert food waste and has many environmental benefits including increasing the soil’s ability to retain moisture, soil regeneration, and methane gas reduction.
Our 2nd graders moved full STEAM ahead with LEGO Education’s Coding Express! Learning key coding concepts, such as sequencing, looping, conditional coding, and cause and effect, they worked together using the bricks as a visual and physical way to test and redesign routes to get the train where it needed to go.
Calling on their compassion and kindness, our thoughtful students created Easter cards and bird feeders for the residents of Riverdale Center for Nursing and Healing as part of our Holy Thursday retreat. One of our staff members has a family member there, and she delivered the cards and put up the feeders around their facilities. We hope the love we sent brought joy and smiles to all!
As our Pre-K students joyfully filled their Resurrection Eggs to take home to share the story of Easter with their families, they thoughtfully made the connection with the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for them and the meaning of Easter.
Lewis: Mrs. Blake, thank you for making these eggs for us so we can remember the day Jesus died.
Mrs. Blake: You know, Lewis, we know that’s not the end of the story, and at the end of our eggs, we can see that. At the end of the story, Jesus rose from the dead.
Mrs. Blake: What does the empty egg tell us?
Sydney: Jesus rose from the dead.
Lewis: And the angels came out.
Mrs. Blake: It tells us that the angels announced that Jesus was NOT in the tomb,
Elilta: Because Jesus rose from the dead because it was Easter.
Mrs. Blake: That is our special Easter celebration. 💕
Alleluia! Alleluia!
We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all the new students and families joining our STM family for the 2024-25 school year! We’re dedicated to fostering not only academic excellence, but also a supportive and nurturing environment where every child can thrive. To all our new families, thank you for choosing Saint Thomas More Catholic School to be your child’s educational home. We can’t wait to start this journey together!
We are delighted to congratulate our Archdiocese of Atlanta Religion Bee winners and participants. Mary (7th grade) won first place in the middle school division! Zakarias (3rd grade) brought back the bronze medal for the intermediate grades. Our students competed against 16 other Catholic schools and were quizzed on scripture, sacraments, doctrine, and devotion.
Mary and Zakarias did a fabulous job of not only representing STM, but also representing their Catholic faith. We also would like to congratulate our alternates, Liam (6th grade) and Theo (3rd grade) for being prepared and ready to step in if they were needed. Congratulations to all these students and their families. We are so proud of you!
