🕒✨ Throwback Thursday! This past spring, thanks to the generous support of the Arconic Foundation, we ignited curiosity and creativity at Stone Mountain Middle School and McNair Middle School. Educators and students dove into a variety of hands-on STEAM activities, fully engaging in the innovative spirit of learning.

At both schools, we supported the development of campus Makerspaces and equipped them with fully loaded maker carts. Our training sessions for educators covered essential tools and projects like Makey-Makey, Geodesic Domes, and Sphero, empowering them to sustain these dynamic educational experiences. A special thank you to the Arconic Foundation for making these transformative educational opportunities possible. 🚀📚

Reflecting on a transformative year at Toomer Elementary, thanks to the generous support of the Zeist Foundation! 🌟 Over the 23-24 school year, we had the honor of providing Toomer Elementary with hands-on maker-based STEAM engagements, empowering both youth and their educators.

Through our professional learning sessions like 'Making Literacy Visible' and 'Makerspace Design and Planning,' we delved into innovative educational practices. Educators enhanced literacy with VoiceThread and developed sustainable makerspaces poised to influence student learning for years to come. 📚🔧

Our team equipped Toomer with a specially designed Makercart, stocked with tools to foster interdisciplinary projects that ignite creativity and critical thinking. Students tackled everything from circuitry & coding with Makey-Makey and Sphero to tackling food sustainability in 'Food without Limits,' not to mention engaging in woodworking and art through our GeoLED program.

We're grateful to have been part of Toomer's journey in advancing STEAM and Maker education and are excited to see how these empowered educators and inspired students continue to innovate and thrive. 🚀

Chip Camp at BEST Academy 6-12 was an incredible two-day journey! 🚀 Students were inspired by Marcus Knighton from the ‘Chip In - Roadtrip Nation’ documentary and engaged in hands-on activities like game controller design & circuitry with Makey Makey, introductory carpentry with custom woodwork, LED light programming, and Sphero-coded zones. Innovation soared with stomp rockets, geodesic domes, a session led by Make Music Count, another creative session led by Subsume, and a semiconductor factory simulation to demonstrate the vast amount of opportunities in STE(A)M industries.

We are grateful to Micron, their volunteers, Brandon Shields, Kim Burnett, and Robert Simmons III, as well as to G. Michelle Walker for making these dynamic educational experiences possible. 📚🔬 Thanks for following our journey as we help foster the next generation of innovators at BEST Academy!
