Denver's skyrocketing rental market is pricing people out of homes People "are going to be evicted by rent increases because landlords know they can get higher rent," and it's forcing renters out of the Denver metro area.

Should renters facing eviction have a free lawyer? NEWR Denver thinks so and wants landlords to help foot the bill They would be charged an annual $75 fee per unit to pay for the program.

Tenants at the Clarkson Lodge in Cap Hill were recently handed an unjust and unexpected eviction notice by their landlord, and told to leave their homes by the end of April. Most don't know where they're going to stay, or how to pay for it. NEWR is teaming up with Denver DSA] to raise money in support - we've raised almost 4000 dollars thus far, mostly from small dollar donations. If you can spare some money today, please donate to help Clarkson tenants afford a place to sleep.

At this event, tenants and families facing eviction will have the opportunity to meet with attorneys to discuss their rights, get help applying for rental relief, and more. This is an invaluable resource for those who need it, so please share far and wide!!

One year ago we began collecting signatures to address a fundamental injustice in our court systems: when families homes are on the line, they have no help asserting the protections they supposedly have under the law. Our campaign would ensure that all tenants facing eviction in have the right to an attorney. Other cities that have implemented RTC prove its effectiveness - when tenants have a lawyer who can navigate the complex legal process around eviction, familes stay housed. We're on the ballot this November and are continuing to build a grassroots campaign. We need YOU (yes, you!) to pitch in to win this basic right for tenants this fall. You might think corporations would cut people with kids a break when it comes to eviction. It's actually the opposite.

Studies show that if tenants had legal representation, 50% of evictions that happen now would be prevented. The evictions that would be prevented are almost always illegal or unjust evictions where corporate landlords take advantage of unrepresented tenants in order to maximize their already bloated profits. Tenants deserve protection from these illegal evictions -- and free legal representation is the best way to do it.
