The Denver Women’s Commission met with a group of intelligent young girls. Olivia and Elena were interviewed on gender inequity. The DWC spoke on gender equality. It is not just a fundamental human right but a right to a sustainable development. Addressing gender issues is equal rights!

The commission supports, influences, and empowers women and girls; and throughout history, there has been a fight about having the same opportunity as men. It is important to change certain laws, rethink customs, and promote policies to stop injustice against all women and girls around the world.

One of the questions a 5th grader asked was, " What do you think that we can do as 5th graders in Denver to work toward gender equity?" Participate in school sports, student body, community events, council meetings, and encourage equal representation and selection in activities. Educate students on issues that impact young women and girls such as being bullied, careers, reproductive rights, and most importantly, stand up for what you believe is right!

We hope that the message inspires women and girls and all gender to be valued and respected. All voices matter!
