There is a recall on all Diamond Shruumz products due to reports of severe acute illnesses and other adverse effects. Detroiters should not buy or eat any flavors of Diamond Shruumz brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies, and should discard products that have been purchased. The Detroit Health Department will be closed Monday, September 2nd, 2024 in recognition of Labor Day. All locations and services will resume at regular business hours on Tuesday, September 3rd.
There is a recall on all Boar’s Head deli meats with sell by dates from July through October 2024. These products may have been contaminated with Listeria, which can cause serious illness and even death. Detroiters should throw away all Boar’s Head deli products and clean and disinfect all surfaces including the refrigerator. With temperatures expected to be in the low to middle 90s Tuesday August 27th and Wednesday August 28th, the City of Detroit will operate cooling centers at the Heilmann Recreation Center at 19601 Brock Avenue, the Patton Recreation Center at 2301 Woodmere Street and the Northwest Activities Center at 18100 Meyers Road. The three cooling center locations will be open from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27th and Wednesday, August 28th. The Detroit Health Department has been notified that a deceased bird found near 7 Mile and the Southfield Freeway has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV). Currently, no WNV cases have been reported or confirmed in humans in Detroit or Wayne County and residents are encouraged to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Air quality in the city of Detroit today is in the moderate range, which may impact individuals with respiratory issues. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) reports that smoke from a mulch fire in southeast Michigan is continuing to cause the Air Quality Index (AQI) to fluctuate. People who may be impacted by moderate air quality are advised to limit outdoor activities and wear a mask. Visit airnow.gov to check the current air quality in your area.
High levels of lead can cause brain damage, especially in babies and young children. Free lead testing is available to all children under the age of 6 in Detroit at our 100 Mack Avenue office every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (313) 876-0133 to make an appointment!
The Food and Drug Administration has issued an updated alert that El Chilar and El Servidor Corp ground cinnamon are contaminated with lead. It’s advising that anyone who has purchased these brands avoid consumption and throw them away immediately. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are alerting Michigan residents that Prophet Premium Blends has issued a recall of all Diamond Shruumz products.
MDHHS and the FDA advise Michigan residents to stop eating, selling or serving any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars, Infused Cones or Micro-Dose and Macro-Dose gummies. These products should be thrown away.
People who consume these products and become ill should seek medical treatment and/or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or visit their website at Poisonhelp.org.

Our Neighborhood Wellness Center at the King Solomon Baptist Church and four other locations in Detroit have officially opened today! On top of existing COVID-19 testing, these centers have expanded their offerings to now provide free blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol screenings.
