CIRCUIT TRAINING… BURN CALORIES AND BUILD MUSCLE IN ONE WORKOUT!
If you are pressed for time or just want to have an intense workout give a circuit workout a try! There are several variations of circuit workouts. One of my favourites is to complete a lower body exercise, immediately go into an upper body exercise, switch to another lower body exercise, continue to an upper body exercise and so on alternating between upper and lower body exercises.
This allows the upper body muscles a chance to recover while working the lower body and then lower body recover while working the upper body. The heart rate will remain elevated during the entire workout as you will ideally have little to no rest between each exercise. This will burn a lot of calories as well as improve the cardiovascular system. You will also increase muscle strength and tone increasing your resting metabolic rate as well!

Strength training allows you to sculpt and shape your body!
Including strength training in your fat loss program will not only burn calories during the training session, raise your resting metabolic rate, increase strength and bone density, it will also allow you to shape and sculpt your body like a piece of art!
That’s right!!!! I said it!!! A PIECE OF ART! While we cannot spot reduce, as a CERTIFIED personal trainer and former bodybuilder, I can show you how to develop specific muscles to give the illusion of a smaller waist, rounder butt, thighs that have more shape!
Fat and muscle are two separate entities. Building the lats and shoulders so they develop a tapered look will give the impression the waist is smaller. Developing the “leg sweep” on the quadriceps will give the illusion the thighs are toned. Developing the gluteal muscles… yes… your butt is made up of specific muscles that can be developed… you can present a more symmetrical look.
This does take time and dedication but is well worth it and will help you to keep body fat off as you raise your resting metabolism as previously mentioned with the increased muscle tissue. Include strength training with your nutrition and cardio plan and set yourself up for success!

BASIC COMPOUND EXERCISES FOR FAT LOSS AND MUSCULAR HYPERTROPHY…
Adding exercises that incorporate multiple joints and larger muscles simultaneously will create an oxygen demand which not only create a cardiovascular effect but burn calories as well. This is because it requires more energy to be expended.
In addition it trains the body to move as it is intended using its kinetic chain in unison while strengthening all the supporting auxiliary muscles.

Strength Training Stategies for Fat Loss
This week I’m beginning a series which will expand on my previous series CARDIOVASCULAR WORKOUT STRATEGIES FOR FAT LOSS.
In this episode, I discuss the importance of strength training as muscle is living tissue which requires nutrients to exist. Increase muscle tissue on your body through a strength training program, you will not only burn calories during your strength training workout, you will experience a caloric burn longer after the workout than a cardio workout and as you increase muscle tissue you will raise your Basal Metabolic Rate (Rate at which you burn calories at rest.)
