The Edina Art Center is excited to welcome Jordyn Myrhan as a new instructor of Beginning Drawing and Digital Illustration.
Jordyn is a high school art teacher specializing in drawing and media arts. She has always loved art, and pursued her interests at the Perpich Arts High School in Golden Valley, St. Olaf College and Augsburg University. She finds inspiration in exploring new mediums and techniques and sharing her learnings with others. Her students are surprised to learn that she has two pet rats named Moon-Moon and Rory, and three Great Danes that she shares with her mother (though the aren’t usually models for her own artwork)!

📣 ATTENTION! 📣 We have a brand new class offering! Digital Illustration with ProCreate starts July 23rd.
Learn techniques of digital illustration, color theory, composition and more in this introduction to Procreate. Each week students will incorporate new ideas and concepts into an illustration to build their skill, confidence and creativity. Students need their own tablet loaded with the Procreate app and Apple Pencil.
✍🏽 Week 1 Basics of ProCreate: Learn how to use different tools and techniques, including digital painting basics and workflow tips to make the most of procreate for your creative project.
✍🏽 Week 2 Design and Color: Learn how to use shape and color to communicate emotions and ideas. Students will create a subject or character to star in their illustrations.
✍🏽 Week 3 Backgrounds and Composition: Putting it all together. How do you make the most of your page! Practice creatively using the background to make you finial composition look great!Week 1 Basics of ProCreate: Learn how to use different tools and techniques, including digital painting basics and workflow tips to make the most of procreate for your creative project.

Big shoutout to our Teen Sculpture Intensive class! One of our talented teen artists sculpted a fantastic dinosaur using advanced techniques! 🦖🎨 Their use of color and texture really makes this piece stand out. Excited to see more creativity from these young sculptors. Stay tuned for more impressive work from these young sculptors!
What a blast! Artists that participated in the Matisse camp learned to use color, patterns, and shapes like Henri Matisse. So much fun was had by all!

We dove into the world of Alcohol Inks! Students learned about these pigment-intense and vibrant, free-flowing inks and experimented with designs on a variety of surfaces. Check out some of the fun we had!

With Erik’s original sculpting process, everyday materials come to life as expressive figures and characters. He loves working with young people and approaches teaching as collaboration. “It’s really exciting to see what sparks kids’ imaginations and watch the grow as they work with the concepts and materials.”
In addition to sculpture, Erik is a small- and large-scale painter. His murals can be seen from Superior, Wisconsin (his hometown) to Bloomington, Indiana (and Bloomington, Minnesota, too!).
Join us Tuesday mornings at Weber Park or Wednesday mornings at the Cornelia Park for our Art in the Park series! It's a perfect time to drop your kids off and run some errands!

The June Art Together event was a success! The rain stayed at bay and the community came together with law enforcement including the and to create art! Join us for our next two events this summer on July 10th and August 14th.

First Saturday Art Lab is held the first Saturday of every month. Staff is on hand to assist families with a variety of projects designed to help young people explore art concepts and mediums. This no-cost program is possible thanks in part to a Youth Activities grant from Hennepin County.

Meet our newest instructor, Sushila Anderson! Sushila is an award-winning stained glass artist who started Dynamic Glass Design in her home studio in 2008. Her background is in graphic design, which informs her glass and mosaic work.
Sushila finds inspiration in bold colors and art nouveau design. As a parent of a teenager, she enjoys working with people of all ages. She loves seeing what others create and the sense of community that comes from making art together.
You can explore glasswork with Sushila on Thursday, August 15 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in her class, Try it: Glass Mosaic Coasters. More classes will be offered this fall.

Join us for Make Together: Garden Stone Mosaic on May 18th!
Create real mosaic art for your garden! This spring-inspired project is great for working together, learning about the properties of glass and having fun! Parents will help students create a mosaic design and cut colorful glass to fill the design for your stone paver. If you're an adult who loves enhancing your garden, come alone or with a friend!
No need to bring anything. For adults, and kids ages 10 and up with their adult. Registration is per project -- adult/child pair or individual adult.
