Our first Pilates principle is breathing. Breathing in Pilates, known as lateral or thoracic breathing, involves expanding the ribcage sideways and backwards, allowing deeper breaths while maintaining core engagement. In Pilates practice, this technique enhances core stability, promotes mindfulness by synchronizing breath with movement, and improves oxygen flow to energize muscles and reduce fatigue. Beyond Pilates, controlled breathing helps manage stress, encourages better posture, and enhances athletic performance by improving endurance and control. As Joseph Pilates said, 'Breathing is the first act of life and the last. Our very life depends on it.'

With summer fast approaching we’re committed to keeping our studio clean and comfortable for everyone. To help us achieve this, we are introducing a new Sock Policy. But instead of just telling you about it, let’s have some fun with a few do’s and don’ts!

DON'T: No Bare Feet Allowed!
🚫 Bigfoot - We love mythical creatures, but not their feet!
🚫 Chicken Feet - Delicious in a soup, not on our studio floor!
🚫 Gross Feet - Let’s keep the funky stuff for dance moves, not toes!

DO: Keep It Stylish with Socks!
✅ Grippy Pilates Socks - Keep your feet happy and secure!
✅ Colorful Socks - Show off your style and keep our studio clean!

Try a Quick Meditation at Home:
1. Find a quiet, comfortable space.
2. Sit or lie down in a relaxed position.
3. Close your eyes and take deep, slow breaths.
4. Focus on your breath, feeling each inhale and exhale.
5. If your mind wanders, gently bring your focus back to your breath.
6. Continue for 5-10 minutes or as long as you feel comfortable.

Have you tried Cauliflower Mash?
Here is my simple recipe for a delicious veggie!

1 head Cauliflower
1/3 head of Cabbage
2 TBLS Coconut oil
1 TBLS Smoked Paprika, could be more if desired
Salt & Pepper to taste

Cut cauliflower & cabbage, place in pan and steam until very tender.
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until it is a smooth consistency. Truly, you can have it as smooth or chunky as you wish
Serve with your favorite protein and starch, ENJOY!

I would like to share a traditional Bulgarian Salad recipe with all of you.

Shopska Salata:
3 Medium Tomatoes
2 Medium Cucumbers
1 Medium Onion
4oz. Feta Cheese

Uniformly cut tomatoes & cucumbers. Add onions, tomatoes, & cucumbers together and mix.
Divide into 4-6 bowls and grate the feta cheese over each serving.

ENJOY! This is one of my most favorite things to eat and a daily salad at our house.

Elevate Your Side Lying Reformer Practice:

Let's delve deeper into refining our side lying work on the reformer by addressing common mistakes and enhancing our technique.
1. Alignment is Key: Precision in alignment is paramount for a successful Pilates practice. Begin by ensuring your hips are stacked directly on top of one another, aligned with your shoulders. Additionally, pay attention to the alignment of your neck, keeping it in a neutral position and looking straight forward. Proper neck alignment reduces strain and supports overall spinal alignment.
2. Engage Your Core: Another crucial aspect is activating the abdominal muscles to support and stabilize your body throughout the exercise. Avoid allowing the waist to collapse onto the carriage by lifting it away and engaging the core. A strong core not only enhances performance but also reduces the risk of injury.
3. Controlled, Mindful Movement: Maintain control and move deliberately within your comfortable range of motion. Rushing through the exercises without adequate control compromises form and effectiveness. Remember, quality trumps quantity in Pilates practice.

Now, let's integrate these principles into our practice. Take a moment to watch the attached video. Focusing on aligning your hips, engaging your core, and maintaining control. These visual cues will guide you in refining your technique during side lying work on the reformer.
