Lend A Hand Up is a nonprofit that raises help and hope for families in crisis. Lend A Hand Up is a 501(c)3 subsidiary of Dakota Medical Foundation.
Gifts raised through Lend A Hand Up are boosted to inspire and maximize the impact of generosity for families in crisis due to health issues, loss of life or other traumatic events.
Alex and Jeana of Lend A Hand Up presented a BIG BOOST to Sara and Brady Hand as a way to increase the impact of community generosity to help them with their medical challenges.

Six months later revealed that this aggressive form of cancer had created a lesion in his brain, as well as spread to his spine. When you donate online, a 20% boost will be added. Steve has been bravely battling cancer for over a year, enduring extensive treatments including radiation, surgeries like a recent larynx removal, and coping with the debilitating effects on his neck tissues, compounded by the recent insertion of a feeding tube and tracheotomy, leaving him in a fragile state upon returning home from the hospital, all while managing long-term effects of Guillain-Barre Syndrome; furthermore, he faces additional challenges as he recently lost his job and health insurance, requiring ongoing home care and medical treatment.

On a beautiful sunny day in November of 2023, 15-year-old Malachi was enjoying the late summer with his cousins riding a bicycle at Island Park when an unfortunate accident occurred. The incident left him unconscious and resulted in a brain bleed.

He was out riding with two of his best friends. Wesley lost control of his bike while going around a curve and was knocked unconscious. Ambulance arrived at the scene and started resuscitating, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The family greatly appreciates any donations that are gifted to honor Wesleyβs beautiful life.

Kenneth "Wayne" Emerson, known as Mr. E or Emer, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after a long gallant fight to live. Wayne and his wife Gloria were lifelong members of the Barnesville community and friends to many in their surrounding communities where Wayne was a dedicated teacher and coach for DGF schools for more than 30 years. We were saddened to learn of Shanna "Seil" Knutson's passing from stage IV gastrointestinal cancer. She leaves behind a large family and many friends who will dearly miss her caring, supporting presence in their lives.

In April 2024, Kathy's health took a critical turn when she was hospitalized at Sanford. Doctors discovered her liver and kidneys were failing, and her heart was functioning at only 15% capacity, with a grim survival estimate of 30% over the next six months. Just as he was enjoying his senior year, Jackson was hit hard by pneumonia. Complications from the pneumonia led to a severe bacterial infection and fluid around his lungs. He has been in the hospital since May 11th, enduring numerous painful procedures, including fluid drainage and multiple treatments to break up the tissue around the fluid.

Nate Strand passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at his home in Barnesville, MN after a fast-moving cancer diagnosis. He was a beloved coach and inspiring teacher who cherished his wife Lauri and their two children, Daxton and Sophie. A funeral service will be held on Tues, May 28 at the High School and a benefit will be held on Friday June 7th at the Pitchfork, both in his hometown of Barnesville. Easton has an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, a very rare form of cancer. Typically, the standard treatment for this type of tumor involves surgical removal.
