For a second year, we will be hosting Movies in the Park, along with the El Paso Parks and Recreation , where we show a FREE family movie for the community. Last year, we had such an overwhelming attendance of families that we realized there is a clear demand for these types of neighborhood gatherings, so we plan to have not one, but THREE movie events at different City parks across District 3 in August and September. We are so very thankful to our sponsors who are making this series possible.

Baby busy feeding the dog or throwing food??

TRY THIS:

✋🏻 If baby is feeding the dog, keep the dog in another room, outside, or in a crate during the meal. This way baby can focus on eating & won’t be enticed to share food.

🖐🏻Once the dog is away, ignore the throwing or dropping. It’s not easy, but the more attention you give, the more baby will enjoy this game.

🖐🏻 Redirect. Change baby’s focus from throwing or dropping qfood to exploring. Model how you smoosh another food on the tray, finger paint with purée, or pick up pieces and feed yourself.

🖐🏻 Give baby a different place to put it. Remind baby “you can put it here”. Try the cup holder on the tray or a small suction bowl at the side of the tray.

🖐🏻 Bring out a new food. Change things up and add a new food to baby’s tray. Sometimes the biggest key is changing baby’s focus and a new food does exactly that. Note: make sure this food was pre-planned as a part of your meal. This mean don’t give baby all the food at once. Save a bit on the table until you need it.

🖐🏻 End the meal. If baby is throwing or dropping, it’s highly likely he is full and ready to be done. If you’re worried he didn’t eat much, offer a balanced snack in 2 hours.

Don’t worry. You’ll get through this. It won’t last forever. Just take a deep breath and enjoy that cute messy baby face. ❤️
