And oh my goodness, it blew me away.
This harsh environment is wildly majestic.
It’s a desert teeming with aliveness.
There’s a feeling it gives you that’s impossible to capture in words.
And it’s a place that has changed the way I see the world.
We likely all have places that touch us like this (Costa Rica is another one for me), and what a gift it is to get to keep them in our hearts 💕 🙏

Want to know something funny?
Last monday I ended up in the ER - less than two hours after writing about my resolution to spend more time celebrating life 😆
Diagnosed with acute appendicitis, I underwent emergency surgery and spent two nights in the hospital.
Looking back on the week, I can’t help but marvel at the timing of it all.
It feel like the Universe was reminding me that it’s not about waiting for life to look a certain way before we deserve to feel joy and peace within 🦋
✨ What happens when we allow levity to coexist with our frustration?
✨ Or let ourselves experience a joyful moment even when we’re in the middle of something sad and painful?
I by no means believe that we should try and feel any better or different than we do, but what becomes possible when we create space for more than either/or to exist within? 🙏
This past week, as I experienced bouts of intense discomfort, I also giggled with my care team.
As I felt pain, I also felt buoyed and grateful.
And as my mind held fearful thoughts, I was overflowing with deep love and appreciation for my partner.
Life will always be messy, that’s the beauty of our human experience.
And this week I was taught that the some of the most meaningful celebrations happen right in the thick of the muck. 💖

One year ago today, Jared and I were hiking the Na Pali Coast, the last day of our bucket list trip to Hawaii.
We spent 3 weeks mostly camping to make the trip affordable on our little budget - it was a real adventure!
I don’t think I shared many of our photos along the way, so thought it’d be fun to do it now.
I’ll never forget the balancing act we were facing, soaking up the beauty of Kauai while simultaneously carrying the awareness that a serious health crisis was descending on the world.
As a result of the year that has ensued, I will never again take our ability to travel freely for granted (along with many other things).

During yoga class this morning, we spent time considering:
🌟 “What is one thing you love about yourself?" 🌟
So often this day can focus on the exchange of love between people, and that is a beauuutiful thing.
But it is also so powerful (and important!) to take the time to acknowledge and name the love we have for ourselves.
Maybe you say it out loud. Or write it down. Or place a hand on your heart and feel it.
However you go about it, I invite YOU to take a moment today to celebrate something you LOVE about the person you are.

Absent/Distant Healing --
This technique empowers you to do Reiki on someone when they are “out of arm’s reach”. The Absent/Distant treatment is immensely useful for those times when you have family or friends at a distance. Even though you’re not physically present, you can offer them Reiki.
Using Absent/Distant Reiki on yourself, you gain objectivity by becoming the witness of your issues and, therefore, more easily gaining mastery over them. It is a powerful method for dealing with strong emotions such as anger, anxiety, rejection, grief or depression.
Absent/Distant Reiki is very useful with challenging situations. Using Absent Reiki on important situations supports you achieving your goals for the highest healing good. Reiki II enables you to co-create with the Universe.

🌈 Self-Reiki has been one of my most helpful coping mechanisms during this crazy time, so I want to share how I incorporate it into my life & the impact it has 🌈
Most days I spend 10 minutes in the morning before getting out of bed, and then 10 minutes before falling asleep moving through a simple series of Reiki hand positions from my head to hips. I spend about 2 minutes at each position give-or-take, just resting my hands on my body and noticing the way it feels for them to be there.
These hand positions are taught in Reiki Level I, and help us settle our nervous system so our body and mind can relax and truly REST.
When I commit to this 20 minutes of simple self-care:
🌈 My days feel more steady, less overwhelming.
🌈 I am able to manage any unforeseen twists & turns SO much easier.
🌈 I laugh more, stress less.
🌈 My sleep is restful.
🌈 And I have more love and care to give others.
On the days I skip out on my Self-Reiki, I notice it too:
🌪 The little things seem to get to me more.
🌪 My anxiety creeps in a bit easier.
🌪 I tend to feel a restlessness that’s hard to put a finger on.
🌪 And I don’t have as much patience or compassion to share with others.
The days I skip remind me WHY I choose to practice Self-Reiki, and inevitably I am drawn back to 10 minutes in the morning, 10 minutes at night.
🌈 This same tool is accessible to you. 🌈

Our minds are powerful tools that support us immensely. We are taught to “exercise” this part of ourselves from a young age to help us thrive and survive. But it is equally (if not more so) important to nurture and exercise” our hearts (not just the organ 😉) for the same exact reasons.
What would it look like if beginning early on in a person’s life both mental and emotional intelligence were given equal weight? At home, in school, at work, in our community?
An interesting perspective on stillness. Learning to practice stillness has changed my life, it is where I connect with the peace and comfort that resides within (each of us). 💖
While it may feel so true in your experience, you are not actually stuck. You are afraid of being still. All too often, in the memories of trauma, the one being attacked, dominated, or overpowered is forced into a role of suppression. As this occurs, stillness represents the position of abuse, whereas the predator abusing you symbolizes the activity of doing that seemed to have all the power. This sets up a subconscious association to stillness being a fearful space of danger, threat, or harm with the constant activity of doing as where all the freedom and power resides. This is often why many spontaneously revisit traumas during meditation or hit existential walls that refuse to sit or be silent for even a moment longer. It is also why, on a societal level, the unconscious pace of life is to mindlessly do without much time spent in beingness, as a facet of survival mode to constantly move around in avoidance of the still and silent posture your earliest traumas remember.
Whether afraid of being still, not believing you are good at it, or frustrated with the growing pains of becoming still, once you are willing to sit and be still, you are able to show your younger self that endless doing is not a form of safety, nor is stillness a place of risk or danger. As stillness is cultivated, one breath and “I love you” at a time, you become the safest space for your younger self to be that ensures with loving-kindness how stillness is now a place of eternal peace and well-being — despite a painful past.
The more often you can be still, the easier it is to remember, its not a matter of how quiet or noisy your mind is, or even how open or closed your heart feels. It is simply a matter of sitting for periods of time to show the parts of you who endured such trauma and hardship that everything is safe enough now to revisit painful memories and feelings, in order to reclaim the hidden aspects that live in the past.
Such reclaiming of personal power occurs by the grace and divine timing of Universal Will as you play the most essential part of being the stillness that allows it all to unfold. The beauty of stillness is that it remains a tool and process solely rooted in experiential learning. You cannot know anything about stillness without being still. There is no wrong or right way to be still. There are simply moments where stillness begins and moments when stillness ends. All so you may uncover the deepest truth in reality; while your experience suggests you are a person individually moving through time and space, you are, in fact, the stillness within body — exploring the evolutionary beauty of movement and change as that which is naturally still and eternal, no matter the gains or losses in sight. This is why you are not stuck. You are simply afraid of being still. And yet, even the fear of being still is a chance to love each fearful part with the very stillness it has forgotten itself to be. This is the heart of remembrance.
