Our Story
Randy & Vickie Akins
Founders & Executive Directors of Chosen Ones
Randy and Vickie founded Chosen Ones to provide a loving community that will support families along their foster and adoptive journey. They paved the path for other foster and adoptive families and continue to reach out to offer prayer, friendship, collective wisdom, and resources to you.
What began in our hearts in 2007, has become an amazing reality. When CPS (Child Protective Services) knocked on our door, we knew our lives would never, ever be the same. As they left our home, our hearts burst with joy just looking into the eyes of a beautiful baby boy. We had not felt this way about anyone or anything since the birth of our biological son 12 years earlier. This baby was not what we had expected or even prayed for, but we knew we now had a mission, and the mission was to be the best foster parents we could ever be.
What followed was an incredibly hard journey. A journey that was taken by me and my husband alone…all alone. We had no friends who were foster parents, we had no one to cry to when we felt overwhelmed by parental visits. We had no one to lean on when case workers and lawyers were bombarding us with questions, home visits and inspections. We had no place to go to get baby items or supplies, and had to pay for everything out of our own pockets. Most of all we had no people to surround us with prayer, support, education and the hand-holding we so desperately needed.
After our son was adopted in November 2006, God called Randy and I to duplicate what we had learned, and share it with as many people we could find. God wanted us to call the church to step up and support the orphans while supporting each other! We did just that!
In 2020, our heart grew to expand our outreach to include support for women-in-crisis pregnancies, and local children in need.
Welcome to Chosen Ones. Come on in and join the family!
