Every person giving birth deserves a safe, empowering experience. That’s why we’re bringing TeamBirth to Tarrant County birthing hospitals.

TeamBirth is a revolutionary initiative that ensures every birthing person has a voice in their care through enhanced communication and teamwork.

In partnership with leading hospitals like JPS Health Network, Texas Health and Baylor Scott & White Health, we aim to close communication gaps and improve maternal health outcomes. Expectant mothers will experience this change starting in January 2025.

This initiative is part of UWTC's ongoing commitment to address maternal mortality and promote equitable healthcare practices in Tarrant County. Together with our partners and supporters, we’re working toward a future where every birth is met with dignity, safety and compassionate care.

Some of the best insight into community needs requires us to get “Out of the Office and Into the Community,” a primary theme of UWTC’s all-staff retreat held last week.

Visits to UWTC funded agencies, The Renaissance House of Terrell Heights and LVTRise in Las Vegas Trail, allowed us to see first-hand how these groups serve our Tarrant County neighbors.

We wrapped up our field trip with a stop at the Northside Community Center, which hosts one of our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites and our Area Agency on Aging information sessions. There, we met with Dan Leal, Director of the Community Center, and Katrina Carpenter, who shared her personal story about growing up in the Como neighborhood. She also catered our delicious lunch from her restaurant, Carpenter’s Cafe & Catering.

The day continued with more enlightening sessions and time together as a team. A big thank you to Tracy Renee Williams for her insightful presentation on effective communication (SPEAKEA²SY).

As we reflect on our impact on the community, UWTC’s staff enjoyed speaking with Tarrant County community members as well as hearing about some of Fort Worth’s pinnacle history.

We are excited to take what we have learned and continue making a positive impact in our community. Stay tuned for more updates and stories from our team!

John Kirby, a proud U.S. Army veteran, knows firsthand the challenges many veterans face after service.

UWTC's Mission United program, which serves veterans, active-duty military and their families, was there for John during a tough time in his life. Our team worked closely with him to address all his needs, from transportation to access to healthy food.

John's journey with Mission United has come full circle. He now volunteers to help veterans like himself. He often refers them to Mission United, ensuring they receive the same level of care and support he did.

Living paycheck to paycheck means carefully planning every dollar to cover bills. But when something unexpected happens, like your car breaking down, you must decide whether to spend money you don't have to fix it or find another way to get to work. It's a tricky balancing act many face daily.

UWTC is dedicated to helping ALICE families—those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained and Employed. These hardworking families struggle to make ends meet and are often just one bad day away from everything falling apart.

With your support, we can be there for them when they need it most. Together, we can change the course of these families' lives and create a community where everyone has the resources necessary not just to get by but to thrive.

When Deanna W. Titzler joined UWTC two years ago, she immediately jumped into the role as brand ambassador. As our chief communications and marketing officer, she crafts messages of hope and change using her talent for storytelling and vibrant spirit.

In her role, Deanna leads the Communications and Marketing team, using creative strategies to highlight UWTC's impactful work. Her biggest passion lies in engaging with people about UWTC's programs and witnessing their surprise when they discover how much direct service programming we provide.

Deanna's personal values are deeply intertwined with UWTC's mission and values. "Being part of a team that truly cares about making a difference in the community makes the hard work worth it," she said.

Although Deanna hails from sunny San Diego, California, she has called Tarrant County home for more than half her life. She is a loud and proud Baylor Bear, having earned her Bachelor of Business Administration at Baylor University and her Master of Arts in communication and leadership studies at Gonzaga University.

When Deanna is not in the office, she is likely exploring a new destination. Her love for travel is not just about sightseeing, but also about learning the history and culture of the places she visits, and of course, tasting the local cuisine.

And here's a fun tidbit: Deanna spent three years living in India, where she volunteered teaching English as a second language to children living in destitute conditions with limited access to education. This life-changing experience inspired her to leave the corporate world and dive into the fulfilling journey of the nonprofit sector.
