It's Throwback Thursday! Big Hair.

For both genders, big hair became popular in the 1980's. The term is also used in the punk, glam, goth and alternative cultures and is particularly associated with fashion of the 1970's, 1980's, and early 1990's or inspired by the period. Actresses like Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot and Jane Fonda became big-haired icons in the early sixties through seventies. Women's hairstyles labelled as "big hair" became fashionable during this period, with a poster of actress Farrah Fawcett becoming an iconic example. The fashion persisted with certain regional subcultures in the southern United States, and the styles are sometimes also associated with female country music performers.

Happy Friday! Hair color is magical. A perfect marriage of art and science. When placed correctly, color can make fine hair appear thicker, limp hair appear fuller, and dull hair appear radiant.

Following French theory we customize each clients formula and placement, often using freehand techniques like balayage, ombre, and line lighting.

Our hair color services are world class. Master colorist and owner Jenna Rabideau Johnson's work has been featured in publications world wide. As the national ambassador for the French hair color line Subtil, she travels the country teaching other colorists her tricks… and she personally educates each and every colorist at Halo.

It's Throwback Thursday! The Crop. Circa 1920's.

The crop first became fashionable in Europe and America during the 1920s, as many of the flappers who had cut their hair short were trying these as well as the early bobs. The Eton crop, one of the shorter and more drastic cuts of its day, was the most popular.

The crop (sometimes known as the pixie cut) became fashionable again in the late 1970s and 1980s, with one of its most notable wearers being the actress Jacqueline Pearce in the British TV series Blake's 7. The crop also was big in the mid 1990s, and Halle Berry appeared in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day wearing a crop. In 2010, Cate Blanchett cropped her hair and Hayden Panettiere also sported cropped hair.

In modern Western culture, a woman can use cropping her hair as a symbol of leaving the past behind, of making a new start.

Jazz Age icon Josephine Baker was daring enough to go even shorter with the Eton crop.

It's Throwback Thursday! Feathered Hair/ Feathered Flip (aka the Farah-do) 1970s.

Feathered hair was a hairstyle popular in the 1970s and the early 1980s with men and women. The hair was grown long on both sides (normally covering the ears, although it could be shoulder length), unlayered (although some men with curly hair did have it layered), with either a side or a center parting. The hair would be brushed back at the sides, giving an appearance similar to the feathers of a bird.

The haircut gained phenomenal popularity in the early 1970s. Many celebrities wore this style at some time or another including Tim Brooke Taylor of The Goodies and Eric Idle (who wore it for a short time between about 1969 and 1971), Farrah Fawcett, and Don Johnson.

It's Throwback Thursday! The Bouffant: The Bouffant was a mainstream hairstyle in the mid-to-late 18th century in western Europe. It was thought to be created for Marie Antoinette, as she had relatively thin hair and wanted to create the illusion of having very full hair.

The modern bouffant, considered by one source to have been invented by British celebrity hairdresser Raymond Bessone, was noted by Life in the summer of 1956 as being "already a common sight in fashion magazines."

Hair on the top of the head was raised by backcombing or "teasing" it with a comb to create a pile of tangled, loosely knotted hair on the top and upper sides of the head. Then unteased hair from the front of the head was lightly combed over the pile to give a smooth, sleek look, and the ends of the outer hair might be combed, cut, curled, or flipped in many distinctive ways.

"A photograph can be an instant of life captured for eternity that will never cease looking back at you."

-Brigitte Bardot

How George Washington Did His Hair 02/15/2016

Happy Presidents Day!

George Washington’s hairstyle is iconic and simple enough that most Americans can probably recall it in an instant. Despite the powder and curls it wasn't a wig at all.

It's Throwback Thursday! The Pixie Cut: Pixie cuts were popularized first in the late 1950s when Audrey Hepburn wore the style in her debut film Roman Holiday.

A pixie cut is a short hairstyle worn by women, generally short on the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on the top.

"I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and... I believe in miracles."
