Let's create a healthy environment for your toddler!
From birth to age 3, your child's brain grows most rapidly. YOU help build their brains when they communicate with you and when you respond back in a way that meets their needs.
Toddlers need plenty of play time, limited screen use, lots of language from people around them and nurturing, warm, responsive adults.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at 828-371-3940 or [email protected]!

Happy Monday! 🌺

May is also National Apraxia Awareness Month!
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is present in about 3-5% of preschoolers. It is now considered a rare speech disorder, but still present and can sometimes be missed.
Apraxia of Speech (AOS) is not limited to children and can also occur in adults due to brain damage from a stroke, TBI, dementia, brain tumors, and brain diseases. The messages that need to go from your brain to your mouth that tell your muscles how and when to move to make sounds do not get through correctly.
Apraxia Kids and ASHA are both wonderful resources to learn more about Apraxia and the signs/symptoms that may appear in a child or adult that may have Apraxia.
A thorough evaluation from a licensed SLP is needed to diagnose CAS or AOS and we would love to help! Contact our office with any questions, concerns, or how to be scheduled for an evaluation.
If your child already has a diagnosis of CAS, you can raise awareness by sharing your story and being involved with their calendar events for the month of May! 🌟
You can visit https://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/apraxia-of-speech-in-adults/ and https://www.apraxia-kids.org/ to learn more!
You can also follow Apraxia Kids and The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association on Facebook & Instagram!

May is American Stroke Month!
Strokes can happen to anyone at any given time. A stroke is a physically and emotionally life-changing event. Every stroke is different and every recovery journey is not the same.
Every second counts when it comes to a stroke! Learn and share the F.A.S.T. warning signs so you can get help as soon as possible.
F = FACE DROOPING (One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Smiles will be uneven.)
A = ARM WEAKNESS (One arm may be weak or numb. One arm may drift downward when both arms are raised.)
S = SPEECH (Speech may be slurred or hard to understand. A person may not even be able to speak at all. Ask for a simple sentence like "The sky is blue" to be repeated.)
T = TIME TO CALL 911 (If any of the symptoms above are present then it is time to call 911 immediately)
All information has been derived from the American Stroke Association. Visit their website at https://www.stroke.org/en/about-the-american-stroke-association/stroke-awareness-month to learn more!
Please reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or need guidance on how to receive therapy after having a stroke. We are here to help!
