Middle School Writing Workshop for Grades 6-8 - Popcorn, a movie, and lots of laughs...this is the perfect camp for your middle school student. During middle school, it is important for students to develop strong writing skills. By understanding the writing process, students will better understand how to do writing assignments. During this four-day exciting and fun workshop, students will focus on the paragraph format and write different types of paragraphs including descriptive, narrative, comparison, and literary analysis. Using high interest activities and literature, Mrs. Henry will excite even the most reluctant writer. This course is a must before students attempt the five-paragraph essay and high school. Class is limited to 15 students.

Students will learn how to expand this “skeleton” to a longer research paper. This easy and interesting presentation will help even the “grumpiest” writer learn that writing can be easily mastered when given the proper tools! Mastery of the five-paragraph essay will help students earn success in both high school and college. Absolutely no one younger than 8th grade may attend this accelerated presentation. This course is not recommended for students who struggle with English or who do not have mastery of basic paragraph writing. It is exciting to see our former students returning with their children!!!!

FUN HEP FACT:

Our first class in 1997 was a Biology Lab. Tonight 2 of the students in that first class were at the Open House. Between them they have 5 children enrolled this coming year.

Two more students from that first class have another 3 students enrolled for next year. And one more student has his son enrolled in camps this summer.

So, out of the 11 students in that first class taught by Dr. Cynthia Hoobler, we now have 9 second generation children attending next year or coming to a camp this summer.

Over the next couple of weeks, you will be hearing a lot about the ESA Walk-a-thon supporting Camp Hope.
Camp Hope works with PTSD survivors. Many live at Camp Hope for six months working to spiritually, mentally, and emotionally regain their lives after combat duty.
Over the years, ESA has contributed over $18K to Camp Hope. We hope that you will help us get to $20K or more this year.
We invite all of the school to come walk with us on the morning of Saturday, April 20 at Frankie Carter Randolph Park. Parents are invited to come and support Camp Hope and learn about Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society.
We will be distributing a flyer about how you can support ESA's Walk-a-thon. You can support us by pledging money per mile that an ESA member walks OR you may donate money. Please make all checks payable to Home Education Partnership of Texas. This is an ESA account and all money raised will go directly to the PTSD Foundation of America.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Gerda Arnold around 9:49 am today. Gerda was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall. Please keep her family in your prayers.
This is a cute photo of Gerda (on the right) with Stacey Keller at the old location.
We will all remember Gerda's cheerful smile and her "Peachy, peachy, peachy" reply when she was happy to see you!
RIP my friend.

Join HEP TX for an awesome “journey through time” with our award-winning Journey Through Time courses.

Six years ago, Joanne Juren was awarded a grant through the Nobel Corporation (National Society for High School Scholars) for innovation in home education. This prize was awarded for her innovative use of the Flip-It methodology for JTT 11 and 12. Cathy Duffy gave JTT a GREAT Review and said it was the first true Honors Humanities Course available to homeschool students.

JTT is a 7-year honors humanities program. Over the last 20 years, HEP TX has equipped over 2000 students (and still counting) with strong writing and thinking skills. These students have since earned many master's degrees and doctorates (63 doctorates as of 1/1/24). Former students usually comment about how the Journey Through Time program has enabled them to excel in college and later in life.

Students attend class 3 hours per week and should complete another 5-8 hours reading, preparing, writing, and studying for the weekly class time. Being a member of the JTT program is an honor and a privilege so the student must maintain an 80/B average each semester to continue enrollment. If you are interested, contact [email protected] or [email protected] for an interview.

Honors Students must present a written recommendation from the previous teacher to enroll in JOURNEY THROUGH TIME or they may be invited to test for admission. Please have the recommendation at enrollment time. New students must be approved by Mrs. Joanne Juren or Mrs. Tiffany Henry for admission to the JTT program. JTT classes examine many of the greatest works of world literature.
