Letter from Fr. Tomaž Mavrič, CM, on the Occasion of the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul 2021 - FAMVIN NewsEN Fr. Tomaž Mavrič, CM has sent a reflection to the entire Vincentian Family on the occasion of the feast of Saint Vincent de Paul on September 27.

Today is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Society's founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, died on this day in 1853, leaving behind his wife Amelie, and their young daughter, Marie. He was only forty.

Traditionally, feast days of saints are celebrated on the anniversary of their death - or rebirth into eternal life, but Frédéric's day, of course, was already spoken for, so his Feast Day is tomorrow.

It was Frederic who first insisted that the Society take Mary as our Patroness, and throughout his life he had a deep Marian devotion. Somehow, I think he would have wanted to give his day to the Blessed Mother.

Holy Mary, pray for us!

Contemplation - May I Have A Word With You?

Blessed Frédéric, layman and primary founder of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, is considered the primary role model for members of the Society. In his words and in his deeds Frédéric leaves us with an example of charity and virtue. At the same time, his words can remind us of our own frailty and of the needs of the neighbors that we serve.

Lord we pray today for the lonely, especially the elderly in assisted living. Isolated against this pandemic, and most vulnerable to its effects, their fears are heightened, their comforts few. Bring your peace to them, oh God, and soothe their anxieties with the light of your peace and love. Keep them safe from this terrible illness, and bless their aids in their work. Give them the energy and patience not only to care for them physically, but to lift their spirits with good cheer and friendship. For this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
