UPDATE 2 - The Oaks Mall has been cleared. GPD and supporting agencies have begun to leave the area of Oaks Mall. Below is the information we know so far.

At Approximately 6:30 PM a call was placed to the Combined Communications Center stating there was a hostage situation inside of the Oaks Mall. GPD and A*O responded to clear and evacuate the mall. There is no evidence that a hostage situation occurred. All third party information of an active shooter at the Oaks Mall is unfounded.

We want to thank Alachua County Sheriff, Gainesville Fire Rescue, and all who assisted us tonight.

Everyone avoid the area around The Oaks Mall in Gainesville. The rumor is that there is an active shooter but we are waiting for more details.

We've received reports of a scam targeting our community. Scammers are posing as our law enforcement officers, claiming that individuals have warrants for their arrest. They're demanding payment via transfers, gift cards, or bitcoin to settle these fictitious warrants.

Please be aware that the Alachua Police Department WILL NOT contact you by phone to inform you of a warrant for your arrest, nor will we ask for payment over the phone or through unconventional methods like gift cards or bitcoin.

If you receive such a call, DO NOT provide any personal or financial information. Hang up immediately and report the incident to us at (386) 462-1396.

Davis has turned himself in to authorities and is currently being held in the Alachua County Jail. Thank you to everyone who called in with tips and information.

***WANTED***

On December 8, 2021, Dale Davis (DOB: 01/17/1968, 6’01”, 180lbs), a registered s*x offender, attempted to lure a 10-year old child into an apartment at the 2800 block of SW Archer Road. The child ran to get her mother who then confronted Davis. Davis got into his truck to leave the location, but the mother stood behind the truck refusing to let him leave. Davis then fled on foot. Davis was unable to be located.

Davis has an active warrant for Failure to Register.
