This past Friday I had the opportunity to discuss this topic (among others) with a magnificent, charasmaitic, and insightful young adult who currently mentors college students at his alma mater. We agreed on the purpose for seeking a college degree and gaining work/community/field experience in the process. We also agreed that today's young adults and college students need to realize college is a training ground for what is next, but we MUST be open to evolving and adapting quickly to meet the work market as an overwhelming majority of college graduates don't end up in their planned field (initially or down the road). Best to prepare early with an open mind about the numerous possibilities that await.

Princeton University will cover costs for students whose families earn below $100K Undergraduate students whose household income is less than $100,000 will not have to pay anything to attend Princeton University, the school said.
Planning for college is something that has three main components.
1. Academic planning - This should be started in middle school and evaluated annually until senior year.
2. Financial planning - This is something that can start at birth (or before), but may not be feasible until high school years. It will certainly look different for every family, and even each child as no two kids are alike. Some will need to work leading up to college, others will focus on targeting merit aid. Few kids actually have family provision to cover all of it, but are lucky should this be the case. Loans should be the last resort when all other options fail, and should be done so wisely knowing the child's ability to pay them back quickly is of high probability.
3. Emotional/Physical readiness AKA Maturity - The final component is just as important as the previous ones as we need to be preparing our child in a multitude of ways for their future launch into adulthood and all things student life. This is multifaceted for sure.
Since part 2 is one that many parents seem the most unprepared for and have the biggest questions about, I thought I'd share this podcast as it highlights the various funding options for students to go to college.

Not only do children need to deschool but parents also need to make this shift.
