Every semester our mentors vote for individuals who show exceptional performance in the lab through dedication, positive communication, and involvement in our community. For Spring 2024, we would like to congratulate Victor and Isa on receiving Mentor of the Semester! We appreciate all that you bring to this space! 🎉

At the end of every CommLabASU appointment, mentees are encouraged to fill out our survey to let us know how we did, and are provided an opportunity to give feedback to our mentors.

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Uyen and Bianca! 🎉
They both have an amazingly positive presence in the lab and set great examples as mentors. Uyen not only offers assistance in the lab by taking extra appointments and being creative with our decorations, but she also did a fantastic job representing Commlab at the conference during her panel. Bianca comes to her shifts ready and excited to assist her mentees, and she was a huge help during the conference in directing guests and ensuring the event ran smoothly as she met every task with enthusiasm. We’re so proud of our awesome mentors!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Carmina, Caitlin, and Zarahi! 🎉
They all were incredibly helpful and supportive during our preparations for the conference this past weekend, on top of their work as mentors. Carmina lifts up everyone in the lab, consistently offering to assist with our daily needs and taking a leadership role for her team’s group project. Caitlin was proactive in helping with the cleaning last Thursday, and jumped in to assist with tech on Saturday to keep the conference running smoothly. Zarahi also provided help whenever necessary and eased the nervousness surrounding the conference with her infectious energy. We are incredibly grateful to our amazing mentors for their support and hard work!

This past weekend, we hosted the NACC 23rd Annual Excellence at the Center Conference! 🙌🏼
We had so much fun connecting with other labs and listening in on the amazing panels. Thank you to those who joined us, and a special thanks to our volunteers who worked hard to make the conference run smoothly!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Paulina and Kameryn! 🎉
They both do an outstanding job helping out around the lab, as well as guiding mentees and participating in community events. Paulina has shown impressive leadership skills that have kept her team right on track with their group project, and has also excelled in her guidance and feedback for her mentees in appointments. Kameryn has also played a role in helping out her peers, whether it’s filming with her team for their group project, or conducting interviews for our upcoming newsletter. We’re grateful for our mentors and the impact they have on us all!

Congratulations to our mentor of the week, Emma! 🎉
She has consistently brought a great energy to the lab, and has made quite the effort to our space outside of her normal shift time. Emma was one of the first this semester to attend community outreach events and she brings a lot of outside connections to our space, which makes us all feel more connected to the rest of ASU and gets everyone involved in our campus community. Her enthusiasm spreads through her appointments and her group work on their project, boosting everyone around her as a result. We’re so proud of all Emma’s great work for the lab!

Here’s a look at all the different majors in CommLabASU! No matter what field of study our student scholars are pursuing, practicing positive communication is able to build awareness and competence in the way that we relate to and engage with others. The experience of mentorship built at the lab can apply to a wide variety of roles in the larger workforce!

The different experiences and knowledge that each one of our spectacular mentors and workers bring to our space is part of what makes it so special.

With the NACC Conference at ASU West Valley on the horizon, let’s take a look at 10 years ago, when CommLabASU hosted the conference in 2014!

We are so excited to serve as the home for this year’s NACC 23rd Annual Excellence at the Center Conference. These photos remind us of our exceptional community, which continues to grow every year. We look forward to connecting with other outstanding communication centers this April!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Kylie and Josh! 🎉
Their enthusiasm and work ethic have made a significant impact on the lab and uplifts their peers and mentees. Kylie’s positive attitude in the lab fosters a dynamic atmosphere, and in her appointments her knowledgeable presence instills confidence in her mentees. Josh’s mentees have complimented his ability to connect quickly with whoever walks into our space and provide sincere feedback. Josh also recently showed his dedication to mentorship staying past his shift time to cover a late-night appointment. It is so awesome to have invaluable mentors with great energy in our lab!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Cassidy and Kenny! 🎉
These two have done a wonderful job contributing to the community of our space and participating in multiple community outreach events, taking great care of our visitors and giving insightful feedback to our mentee groups. Cassidy has hit her stride throughout the semester, and her ambition as a mentor is inspiring to watch. Kenny embodies our values at CommLabASU, bringing a consistent energy to the lab each day and helping leadership troubleshoot problems that might crop up. We are proud to have such committed mentors working in our lab!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Geo and Jibril! 🎉
They both have a dedication to the lab that they show in their willingness to go the extra mile to help out when they can, as well as participating in the community within the lab with their fellow mentors. Geo always has a great attitude on his shifts, taking back-to-back appointments to help with the daily flow of the lab, and he is often socializing and getting to know his team better while playing games and hanging out in the classroom. Jibril has consistently demonstrated excellence by actively participating in community outreach events and offering support to his GSCs, on top of cultivating greater openness among his fellow mentors. We are so proud and grateful for our mentors’ contributions to our space, and hope they keep up the great work!

They both represent a high standard of excellence as mentors, pushing for their own professional development and committed to providing invaluable guidance to their mentees. AJ has been such a great help around the lab, his upbeat attitude lifting up the rest of the team with him, and he has been proactive in seeking opportunities to help the lab, such as our social media team. Selene embodies the spirit of a superb mentor as she dedicates herself to give her mentees insight and guidance, as well as holding herself to a high caliber of professionalism and mentorship. We are so grateful for our mentors and all their hard work!

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Genesis and Serena! 🎉
They both have shown commitment to the lab and our mission by going above and beyond. Genesis has demonstrated an impressive willingness to venture beyond her comfort zone and forge connections with peers. She also actively participates in community events, offering invaluable support outside of regular lab hours. Serena’s proactive leadership and ambitious initiative sets a high standard for others to follow. She successfully manages tasks during every shift, actively seeks opportunities to enhance her mentoring skills, takes initiative within her group, and efficiently completes her closing duties. Both our mentors represent model behavior that we’re proud to have serving our lab!

Here at CommLabASU, we find it pertinent to pay homage to those who have sparked such great change — not only at Arizona State University but for the world.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (second to the right) paid a visit to ASU on June 3rd, 1964 alongside President of ASU, Homer Durham (pictured on the right) who invited Dr. King to speak to further advocate for social and racial justice.

His message serves as a reminder that as individuals can create a large impact, no matter where we stand.

Congratulations to our mentors of the week, Victor and Denise! 🎉
They both have contributed in building a sense of community with their fellow mentors, making the lab a comfortable and inviting space. Victor is always eager to learn and has created great rapport with his mentees each appointment. Denise has been proactive in her duties for the lab and has demonstrated leadership qualities by taking initiative in completing tasks promptly and efficiently. Both our mentors have done an incredible job at embodying our values and upholding the CommLabASU mission!

Make some noise for our first mentors of the week for this semester! These two have demonstrated excellent leadership skills, enthusiasm for their work, and a warmth that brings the lab together. Congratulations, Zarahi and Isabella! 🎉

Open Door 2024!
Last Saturday we welcomed members of our community to the West Valley campus. Here at the CommLab, we got the opportunity to give tours of our lab space, hand out cotton candy, hold impromptu speeches, have group storytelling, and open our space to creative messages! Thank you to all who visited and left insightful and creative messages on our wall :)

CommLabASU is open to the public this Saturday for ASU Open Door!

CommLabASU is now open for the Spring 2024 semester! Our mentors have been working hard during training week and are ready to start out this semester with confidence and enthusiasm!

Students enrolled in Communication courses can visit the lab to practice their speech delivery, brainstorm ideas, and receive feedback from our mentors. We are here to help students with their public speaking abilities and confidence in their communication.

We are so excited to have you all back and look forward to another exciting semester! Come visit us on the third floor of the SANDS building, Mon-Thu 9am - 6pm, Fri 9am - 5pm.

We would like to send out a message of appreciation to our team of Fall 2023 mentors! They created such an enthusiastic and welcoming space— and were able to put that in practice in the work they did with mentees and when collaborating with our team!
