We are disappointed that the GUSD Board of Education has unilaterally declared an impasse in bargaining in the middle of summer when they know many educators are unavailable. As recently as June 24, 2024, GTA's bargaining chairperson communicated to GUSD a desire to schedule additional negotiation meetings to consider a new proposal from GTA. GUSD's attempt to end direct negotiations between the parties is premature. We believe their declaration of impasse is inappropriate at this time. We believe in the collective bargaining process and intend to reach a tentative agreement that educators will approve, and that will support our schools. GTA leadership will provide members and our community with more information as the situation evolves.
