Our team of cardiologists at Aurora Medical Center – Grafton recently made history with the first procedure using the new Allia IGS Pulse technology in all of the Midwest. Not only that – Aurora Grafton is the third hospital in the country to have this equipment in its cardiac catheterization lab.

The Allia IGS Pulse was designed to improve workflow for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in interventional cardiology. The system works to decrease motion blur for better visualization of moving elements, such as vessels, by removing the burden of manual adjustment during procedures. This allows our team to stay focused on complex procedures and treatment of patients. It also significantly reduces radiation exposure for patients and healthcare professionals.

Dr. Christopher Marowski performed the first procedure using the Allia IGS Pulse technology at Aurora Grafton. Since then, Dr. Steve Naum, Dr. Ali Khan and Dr. Adam Bykowski have all used the equipment in subsequent patient procedures. The 10th annual Stepping with the Stars, held at Milwaukee's Baird Center, raised over $100,000 to benefit Aurora at Home care services. The event, which drew more than 1,000 attendees, generated proceeds for the Aurora at Home Edison McCants Comfort Fund. This initiative was co-founded by Alicia Smith-McCants, Vice President of Development Operations and Analytics for Advocate Charitable Foundation and Aurora Health Care Foundation, in memory of her late husband, Edison McCants, who lost his battle with cancer.

Among the 14 local celebrities who participated in the dance competition to support the cause was Richard Badger, a survivor of prostate cancer and former bariatric patient at Aurora Health Care.

"I'm very grateful for the care team at Aurora Health Care," says Badger. "They've given me a second chance at life."

As a cardiologist, Dr. Stephen Welka’s goal is to provide his patients with the knowledge and information they need regarding their cardiovascular health, and to help them understand the healthy living changes they can make as individuals to lower their cardiovascular risk.

“The trust they place in me is most important because it allows us to move forward together through various types of procedures that ultimately are going to save their lives,” he says. “How would I like to be treated if the roles were reversed? With respect and honesty. I strive to provide that.”

Aurora Medical Center – Summit teamed up with the Wisconsin Army National Guard for a simulated emergency response training last week. As a level II trauma center, emergency drills aren’t out of the ordinary.

"Our partnership with the Wisconsin Army National Guard allows us another way to simulate a mass casualty situation so that we can both be prepared for the next incident in our community and to save more lives,” says Dr. Christopher George, the hospital’s emergency services medical director.

Oliver Nepper was paralyzed as a toddler after suffering a spinal cord injury. Over 30 years later, he is still determined to learn how to stand and walk again. With the help of Aurora West Allis Medical Center’s Neuro Rehabilitation Center and an exoskeleton, he walked through the hospital earlier this week.

As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), she is an advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and their recovery. She’s warm and engaging, and her patients benefit from her holistic approach to healing.

High school student Torin Slaughter was inspired to bring “Stop the Bleed” training to her school after a career day demonstration at Aurora Medical Center – Mount Pleasant. Her mentor, Amy Moczyniski, an EMS community educator at Aurora Mount Pleasant, helped connect her to resources to help her vision come to life. Students will learn how to hold pressure to a wound, apply a tourniquet and pack a wound.
