Volunteers In Service

Here at VIS, we call clients "VIS Friends." This better describes the relational nature of our work. When a VIS Friend and a Volunteer connect, relationships develop. Ultimately, this relationship witnesses Christ's love and points towards a relationship with Jesus!

SERVE GR is a local serving opportunity for middle and high school students through Ada Bible Church. Volunteers In Service was one of the local nonprofits Ada Bible partnered with to identify service opportunity for their students in July. These students put their faith into action, serving across our community as they learned they are Created, Called, and Gifted to serve! Hey Lifeline Students, THANK YOU for serving our VIS Friends with love, compassion, and grace!

Join Our Team! VIS is adding a part-time (20-24 hrs/wk) Casework Connections Associate to our team. This individual will play a key role in coordinating and connecting volunteers with service opportunities (especially transportation requests) and assist with the intake of new VIS Friends (clients) and new ministry requests. SHINE THE LIGHT OF JESUS! Summer reminds us of the joy God provides through LIGHT! Who doesn't love to play flashlight tag, catch fireflies, or sit by the campfire. Scripture is full of images of LIGHT. Not only does God's Word LIGHT our way (Psalm 119:105), but God calls us out of darkness into his wonderful LIGHT (1Peter 2:9). In fact, Jesus calls Himself the "Light of the World!" While our world is full of darkness, sin, and chaos, God declares himself to be the LIGHT! Never again do we need to walk in darkness. We can walk without fear, because the Lord is our LIGHT and our salvation, the stronghold of our life (Psalm 27:1).

God's Word doesn't stop there. As people of God, we are called to shine God's LIGHT in our hurting world. "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) Serving our neighbors in the name of Jesus points them to the amazing love of God, the LIGHT of the World! Thank you for choosing to serve this summer and witness the love and LIGHT of Christ in our local community! Go! Be the LIGHT! Let your LIGHT shine before others so they might see Jesus in you!

Students SHINE Jesus' Light in GR!
LaGrave Avenue CRC was a host site again this summer for SERVE, a ThereforeGo Ministries short-term mission trip for high school students. LaGrave partnered with Volunteers In Service to identify sites for a week full of service opportunities across greater Grand Rapids. With all their heart, soul, mind and strength, these teens took up the call to serve and SHINE the light of Jesus. They served with 21 nonprofits in our community and went to the homes of 14 community members. With great joy, they prepared meals, restocked pantry shelves, deep cleaned, landscaped, painted, repaired, built, etc...most importantly, they put their faith into action and witnessed the love of Christ through their service! Thanks, teens, for letting your LIGHT shine!
