When it comes to heart health, every second counts, especially with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). While the gold standard treatment is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), thrombolytic therapy steps in when PCI isn’t immediately possible. But how has the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped this landscape?

Enter Dr. Erin Weeda from USC School of Medicine Greenville, leading a groundbreaking project funded by an ASPIREing grant. This initiative will uncover recent shifts in thrombolysis use and patient outcomes across the U.S., shedding light on crucial differences between rural and urban healthcare settings.

Why It Matters:
Urban vs. Rural: Identifying and addressing unique challenges in rural healthcare access.
Pandemic Impact: Reevaluating thrombolysis effectiveness as healthcare evolved during COVID-19.

This research could save lives by bridging gaps in heart attack treatment, especially in underserved rural communities. Click the link to learn more!
