Seniors were provided with information about the many services the Appalachian Area Agency on Aging offers. Our job is to ensure seniors and/or adults with disabilities have access to information about programs and services that may assist them in living with choice and dignity in their homes and communities.

Due to the dedicated service of Ombudsman Volunteers, resident access to the Ombudsman Program is enhanced significantly and hundreds of residents receive information about their rights and have assistance and support in resolving their concerns.
Helping residents get their needs met is one of the greatest โperksโ of volunteering. Anything volunteers do directly, such as providing comfort to residents or indirectly supporting the staff and holding them accountable, helps to provide a better quality of life for our residents.
As a Volunteer Ombudsman, you fulfill a vital role in our program. THANK YOU!!

Compassion in Action
Over 60% of the residents in long-term care facilities in South Carolina have no visitors. The lack of social contact and a support system often results in depression and an overall decline in health. Volunteer Ombudsmen provide residents encouragement by listening to their concerns, advising them of their rights, and helping them find the answers to their questions. The work of Volunteer Ombudsmen greatly reduces the sense of isolation many long-term care residents experience.
Volunteer Ombudsmen make unannounced friendly visits to designated long term care facilities on a weekly or biweekly basis. During their visits volunteers listen to and interact with the residents. Volunteer Ombudsmen work with residents to communicate concerns and provide support and empowerment.
To be considered as a Volunteer Ombudsman, an applicant must meet the following requirements, as well as complete an application and a background check.
