"12-year-old Devin faced a life-altering moment when a coffee accident left him with second-degree burns on his arm. Devin underwent surgery where allograft skin from a tissue donor was applied. The donor's gift of life played a crucial role in Devin's remarkable healing process, with zero complications. After a month, Devin's own skin began regenerating, marking a significant milestone in his recovery. Cleared for water just in time for a family trip to Hawaii, Devin joyfully embraced the ocean, achieving personal records in scuba diving and snorkeling. In honor of National , we are sharing Devin's story of gratitude for the tissue donation that changed his life, allowing him to enjoy the activities he loves.

"Dr. Lonnie Thompson, known as the β€œreal-life Indiana Jones,” spent the past 50 years climbing the world’s tallest mountains to bring back ancient ice from the glaciers and learn about the climate of the past. β€œWhen you think about a heart transplant, that is the greatest gift one person can give to another because we only have one. The recovery from that was long. It was arduous. But had I not gotten that heart, I would not have been able to complete six expeditions since that transplant and two of the largest expeditions we have ever run, where I set a world record for a heart transplant patient for elevation in that project. So I think it sends a message to all of those organ donors out there, all those people, and families whose loved ones have donated organs so others can live. How important that is and what a difference it makes in the lives of those who receive those organs.”

Tune in to the National Tree of Life Ceremony on Dec. 19 to hear more of Lonnie and his amzing heart transplant journey. You can also watch the documentary Canary to learn more of Lonnie's amazing story, available on Amazon Prime, Apple, Google Play, YouTube and other streaming platforms."

Honoring the Gift of Life: Unveiling the Donate Life Floragraph Honoree, Neil Manhar Patel! 🌹✨

Global Transplant Solutions, Donate Life South Carolina, and We Are Sharing Hope SC hosted an intimate ceremony today at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville to unveil the SC Donor Hero Floragraph portrait of Neil Manhar Patel. Neil, a beacon of hope, tragically lost his life in a car accident, but in his passing, he became a hero by saving four lives through organ donation.

This special occasion brings together Neil’s cherished family and friends alongside dedicated partners in the transplant community - medical professionals, recovery agencies, transplant centers, and other related organizations - all united in a shared mission of saving lives.

Neil’s story lives on through a stunning floragraph portrait crafted with organic materials. This beautiful tribute will ride on the 2024 OneLegacy Donate Life Rose Parade Float on January 1, 2024. The float, β€œWoven Together: The Dance of Life,” pays homage to six Native American nations, honoring their rich cultural heritage on New Year’s Day.
