For this , Boiling Springs Fire District urges you to stay informed about Energy Storage System safety, including home backup batteries, Tesla Powerwalls, Generac Pwrcell, portable power stations, and electric vehicles.
Understanding battery types is crucial:
- Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion): Common in many devices, known for high energy density but can overheat if damaged.
- Lithium Polymer (Li-Po): Flexible and lightweight, yet sensitive to punctures.
- Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4): More stable and safer, but lower energy density.
- Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad): Durable but contains toxic materials and can suffer from memory effect.
- Lead Acid: Reliable and cost-effective, but low energy density, heavy, and can leak corrosive acid/fumes.
Safety Tips:
1. ALWAYS follow manufacturer guidelines for installation and use.
2. Avoid physical damage to batteries.
3. Store in a cool, dry place.
4. Be aware of the dangers of burning batteries, including toxic smoke, ejecting flaming materials, and extreme heat release rates.

Anaphylaxis Awareness Tips:
Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that requires immediate attention. Epinephrine autoinjectors are crucial in managing this life-threatening condition. To empower you in protecting yourself and others, here are some actionable items to keep in mind:
1. Learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, such as difficulty breathing, swelling, and hives. Understand the triggers that can cause an allergic reaction.
2. If you have a known allergy or have been prescribed an epinephrine autoinjector, always keep it with you. Carry it in a readily accessible location, such as a bag or pocket.
3. Take the time to understand how to properly use your specific autoinjector. Read the instructions, watch instructional videos, and ask your healthcare provider for a demonstration if needed.
4. Inform close friends, family members, and colleagues about your allergies, and educate them on how to use an autoinjector in case of an emergency. This knowledge can make a significant difference in someone's life.
5. Ensure that your autoinjector is not expired. Mark the expiration date on your calendar and replace it before it expires. Expired devices may not provide the intended dose, potentially compromising its effectiveness.
By taking these action items to heart, you are equipping yourself to respond swiftly and effectively in the face of anaphylaxis. Your preparedness can save lives and contribute to a safer and more inclusive community. Together, let's spread awareness, support one another, and make a positive impact in the realm of anaphylaxis management.
As summer approaches and we spend more time outdoors, Boiling Springs Fire District wants to stress the importance of recognizing severe allergic reactions and being prepared. If you have severe allergies, keep epinephrine autoinjectors easily accessible at home and in other frequented places. Remember to check expiration dates regularly and replace expired devices. In case of an emergency, follow the instructions carefully when administering the autoinjector and immediately call 9-1-1. Together, let's ensure the safety of our community by spreading awareness and knowledge about allergy emergencies.
