Was so fun sharing my research on how cultivating creativity can have a positive and powerful impact on trauma treatment. Big Messy Courage was born out of a desire to cultivate creativity in my own life to heal trauma, and my desire to help others expand their window of tolerance in a non-threatening way. It was my pleasure to do this with SCSCSW.

Comparison is all about conformity and competition. It’s easy to see how difficult it is to make time for important things such as creativity, gratitude, joy, and authenticity when spending enormous amounts of energy conforming and competing. Creativity, which is the expression of our originality, helps us stay mindful that what we bring to the world is completely original and cannot be compared. - Brené Brown

During this workshop, we will examine how comparison prevents us from living fully and learn how to invest in our creativity. We’ll be exploring all aspects of your creativity: ways to cultivate more of it, how to use it to enhance your daily life, and how to work through creative blocks when you experience them.

As a trauma therapist, I have seen clients affected by a vast array of traumas. I am constantly reading books and research articles on various traumas and trauma treatment so I can better serve my clients.

Lately, I have been doing a lot of studying and research on religious trauma. I have been seeing more and more clients come to me and describe traumas that have been from growing up in certain churches, cult involvement, and religious traditions that have been more harmful than comforting and healing. My heart breaks for anyone who has experienced trauma, and generally I feel confident working with clients of trauma, but as religious trauma began to surface in my office, I knew I needed to take a deeper dive to not only learn more to understand how to help my clients but also become aware of how my own personal beliefs and biases may interfere in that therapeutic process.

I love and respect Diane Langberg because of her extensive experience with CPTSD. She is a childhood sexual abuse, of which is my specialty. She is a clinical psychologist and a Christian. She is a pioneer in trauma treatment with a Christian perspective. When I saw this video come up on my feed, I knew I had to watch it. This is an important topic for all of us to talk about.

This is an invitation. Watch this video. And let’s start talking about it, out loud. It’s ok. Im open. I’m listening…. And I’m willing to keep shining light on this.

The Gifts of Imperfection(TM) for Healing Professionals Weekend Beach Retreat May 11 -14 2023 — Beauty for Ashes Counseling, LLC (864) 501-3633 - Art Therapy for Anxiety and Depression 01/10/2023

Just in! Come and join us for a restful, restorative, and replenishing time at the beach while diving into the Gifts of Imperfection(TM). We will utilize the research of Brené Brown to examine how comparison prevents us from living fully and learn how to invest in our creativity. We’ll be exploring all aspects of your creativity: ways to cultivate more of it, use it to enhance your daily life, and work through creative blocks when you experience them.

This workshop is based on the ground-breaking work of Dr. Brené Brown’s best-selling book, The Gifts of Imperfection™. During this workshop, you will learn ways to let go of who you think you are supposed to be and embrace who you are. You will explore what gets in the way of feeling loved, belonging to, and being enough. Then you will discover the secret to cultivating a life of genuine connection, authenticity, and depth in your relationship with yourself and others.
Reconnect with your confidence and creative roots that propelled you into the healing profession.

Using the work of Dr. Brené Brown, we’ll playfully and intentionally explore themes of courage, connection, vulnerability, and resilience utilizing THE GIFTS of IMPERFECTION™.

Curated specifically for mental health providers, we focus on increasing your reservoir of energy and well-being. Our retreats and workshops focus on THE GIFTS of IMPERFECTION™ using a variety of expressive art modalities, cognitive theory, and somatic awareness to deepen your connection to yourself -- tools that increase your clarity about your gifts and what you offer to clients.
YOU’LL LEAVE FEELING
ENERGIZED, CONNECTED, AND MOTIVATED...

This weekend will lead you to deeper self-knowledge, more prosperous relationships, and more authentic living. Moving beyond perfectionism to self-compassion, we discover how vulnerability and courage are vitally linked. We develop skills to be resilient in life’s storms and step into the freedom of knowing we are enough.

Through this experience, we will examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be holding us back, and we will identify the new choices and practices that move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living.

In case you need the reminder, setting a boundary doesn't make you mean. You can set a boundary, and still be loving—in fact, being clear about your boundaries is one of the most loving things you can do.

Give yourself permission to redefine selfish, and prioritize your health and safety.

"What do you do if you don't punish for bad behavior?" We teach, reinforce, and practice what they could or should have done differently. Sometimes we do a do-over right in the moment. Sometimes we role play later when everyone is calm. Sometimes we problem-solve to repair a fractured relationship. Sometimes we have a family meeting to reset and start over. But whatever we do, it is restorative and redemptive, not retributive.
