John Gilder Memorial Scholarship Fund
We all lost a great friend in John. No matter who you were he always saw the best in you and was willing to lend a helping hand in any way.
John you will be missed forever by all of us. 7/1/86-8/18/09

Although we are not having a Lawn Party this year, many have asked about donating to the scholarship fund. Here are 2 ways to donate, and the processes have changed a bit.
Gifts via check (checks should be made payable to Fordham University):
Bank of America-Gift Processing Center
Fordham University
PO Box 417762
Boston, MA 02241-7762
Donors should include a note conveying instructions that the gift is to be allocated to the John Gilder Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
Gifts via credit card, via the University’s secure online giving webpage:
1) Link: https://www.fordham.edu/give;
2) Click on the “Make a Gift Now” button (middle of page, links to a secure page)—
Under the “Designations” section at the top of the Giving page, select the button “Search for other funds or select multiple,” and scroll to the bottom of the pop-up text box, and select “Other” and hit “Continue. Enter John Gilder Memorial Endowed Scholarship in the text box, and proceed.
There is a section further down on the Giving page marked “My gift is a tribute to someone special”—there donors can affirm the gift is in John’s memory, if they choose.
From there, things should be straightforward in executing the transaction. Donors making gifts in this way will receive a tax receipt via email immediately after making the gift.
As always, if you know someone from the Island who is going to Fordham and is interested in the scholarship, please reach out.
A Few Announcements:
1) We have just awarded our Fordham Scholarship to Geffrey Ogando Reyes (pictured below), a current senior studying Business Administration with concentrations in Information Systems and International Business. Geffrey is also a graduate of Fordham Prep.
2) In light of the recent protests being held around the world and to further promote equality, we have made a donation to the scholarship fund at Howard University. While funding the scholarship at Fordham University will remain our primary mission, we want to help as many in need as we possibly can.
3) Due to Covid-19, social distancing, and individuals feeling the financial impact, we have decided to not host a Lawn Party this year. After 10 straight years of hosting the event, this was not an easy decision, but one we feel is best for the community and our generous donors.
If you would still like to make a donation to the Fordham fund, there are 2 ways to donate:
1) Send a check to John Gilder Memorial Scholarship Trust, c/o 32 Fado Lane, Cos Cob, CT 06807. This is the account we use to fund the scholarship but we can not issue tax deductible receipts yet.
2) For a tax deductible receipt sent to your home, you can donate directly to Fordham University through www.fordham.edu/onlinegiving we have streamlined the website so there are no more long drop down menus of choices. However, you can write in special funds (like the Gilder Scholarship) where you would like your donation to be directed.
When you go to the form, you will see a designation choice "I would like to select another designation and/or split my gift". When you choose this field, another menu should pop up with more choices and if you scroll to the bottom of the screen, you will see the choice "Other". This then provides you with a box to write "The John Gilder Memorial Scholarship".
All donations regardless of size are greatly appreciated.
The Bronx Times & Bronx Times Reporter recently did a story on our donation to Jacobi Medical Center to fight local addiction. Without your support, none of this would be possible.

We are happy to announce that the 2016 John Gilder Scholarship Award at Fordham went to Alessandra Colasacco.
Alessandra is Gabelli School of Business Applied Accounting and Finance major, Class of 2018. She is Bronx born and raised, growing up in the Country Club neighborhood, and takes great pride in the Bronx community, which is why she chose Fordham. Alessandra attended Ursuline Academy in high school and works part time while living at home to support her education. In her spare time, she volunteers at the local Providence Rest Nursing Home, where she enjoys giving back to her neighbors. She hopes to complete her MBA in Finance following her undergraduate degree. Fun facts, Alessandra is a devoted vegetarian, loves ballroom dancing, and is a raving Yankee fan (of course)! We are very happy to meet Alessandra and look forward to supporting her work at Fordham through John’s Scholarship that you all make possible.
Tomorrow our Little League team starts their championship series. This is their 4th time to the championship in 5 years. We are very proud of them and recently Mark Gilder was able to speak to the players and join them for a post game chant.
Our partners for our normal tailgate on June 20th were unable to accommodate us anymore but we are working to still have an event that day at Yankee Stadium for Old Timers Day.
Look out for an event soon.
Mark

We look forward to sponsoring the summer travel team.
This years scholarship winner was nice enough to send over some background information about herself.
"I am Vonmarie Thomas, a senior in the Gabelli school of business majoring in Public Accountancy with a concentration in finance and a specialization in international business. Within the Fordham community I am President of ALPFA, the Association for Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. Being a true New Yorker means picking a side in baseball and I am Yankees all the way. I am a first generation graduate of a bachelors degree in my family and I'm truly honored and grateful to have received the John Guilder scholarship."
Tonight at the Fordham Donors & Recipients Reception, Jason Breines and Mark Gilder had the pleasure of meeting the 2013 John Gilder Scholarship winner, Vonmarie Thomas. Vonmarie is a Gabelli Business School Accounting and Globe Program major, who is from the Bronx, and prefers the Yankees over the Mets, much to Jason's disappointment. Congratulations to Vonmarie!
The City Island Little League season has begun and Gilder's Scholarships are back in action for another great season!
Just like last year we are accepting pledges for home runs hit by the team and have already raised $500 for a grand slam for last week.
