Greenwich United Way’s needs Reading Champions volunteers -- be part of the town’s largest volunteer-driven program serving all Greenwich Public Elementary Schools! Reading Champions delivers consistent early literacy support with 120+ volunteers in 11 schools and five after-school programs reaching approximately 400 students every year. We are incredibly proud of our Reading Champions! This spring marked 16 years of providing unparalleled literacy support, helping improve reading fluency among Greenwich elementary students.
A committed partner to Greenwich Public Schools (GPS), Reading Champions is the largest volunteer-driven early literacy program in town. In the 2023-2024 school year, 120 volunteers supported 350 students with one-on-one tutoring sessions in all 11 Greenwich Public Schools and five after-school programs.
We are always looking for volunteers so please contact us to learn more or inquire about this rewarding opportunity. 📚

The Greenwich United Way this week awarded nearly $1 million in Community Impact Grants to local health, education and self-sufficiency programs across 26 partner agencies: Abilis, Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, Boys Scouts, Building One Community, Children’s Day School, Coffee For Good, Family Centers, Filling in the Blanks, Food Bank, Food Rescue US, Greenwich Alliance for Education, Inspirica, Jewish Family Services of Greenwich, Kids In Crisis, Laurel House, Liberation Programs, Mothers For Others, Neighbor To Neighbor, Pacific House, Pathways, River House Adult Day Center, The Rowan Center, Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG), UJA-JCC, YMCA of Greenwich, and YWCA of Greenwich.

We anxiously and enthusiastically await the Fall 2024 opening of the Youth & Adolescent Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program in partnership with Greenwich Hospital Yale New Haven.

Led by the Greenwich United Way's Sole Sisters, a recent town-wide food drive for Neighbor to Neighbor amassed 1,000 pounds of groceries for nearly 900 meals. The early April drive was particularly successful thanks to the various local businesses and organizations including Greenwich Academy and Sacred Heart coming together to collect donations across town, helping Neighbor to Neighbor restock its shelves following the holidays.
Thanks to Greenwich Department of Human Services/BANC (Byram Archibald Neighborhood Center) After-School Program for being a Reading Champions partner. Year-end planning is under way to recognize the commitment of our dedicated volunteers and the hard work students have put in to improving their reading skills this past year.
📸 Middle school students at the Boys and Girls Club benefiting from GUW’s Finance Champions program. Our trained community volunteers teach the fundamentals of earning, saving and spending money to help students make smart financial decisions.
At April's CPC meeting with partners Foundation House and The Foodshed Forum we examined food system transformation in Connecticut. GUW VP of Community Impact, Rob Moore, joined one of the two panels to discuss innovative pathways that shift culture toward a more just, resilient, & regional food system.
Last week's Annual Sole Sisters Luncheon helped raise funds to support community solutions in the areas of education, self-sufficiency and health. As always, the event’s boutique offered guests a uniquely-curated shopping experience with 20% of all sales going to Greenwich United Way programming and grants.
