Greenwich Jiu Jitsu Academy

Yesterday we celebrated one of the best humans to ever step on our mat . We gathered for Mike’s bittersweet final day at GJJA before he begins his next chapter as a Law Enforcement Officer in Ohio. It’s no surprise that he’s found another avenue to help others. His impact on our space, culture and individual members cannot be overstated. Entering GJJA a life long Wrestler and UFC Veteran, he could having easily treated the experience as a journey for further personal excellence. Instead he chose to give, every single day, to any and all he shared the mat with. One of the best Grapplers, Coaches, Teammates and Men I’ve had the privilege to learn from in my life. Mike’s impact will forever be ingrained in the DNA of our space and culture. We all wish you the greatest success in your new career, Pray for your safety as you protect and help those in need, and promise your legacy as a GJJA Coach and Black Belt will never be forgotten! We can’t wait to see how your next chapter unfolds!

Weekend Nogi people, taking backs and breaking legs.

We had the pleasure of hosting extended family last week & .jiujitsu for some cross training and sharing of ideas. It was just a good old fashioned fun week of training and surrounding ourselves with tremendous people, the perfect combination. Chris’ depth of grappling knowledge is hard to fathom, I learn something new every time we link up. And it was a treat to watch the intentional and focused approach Gabby, a high level competitor, brings to the mat. Love you guys! Thanks for being here and making an impact on our entire community!!!

Yesterday we had the privilege to host .bjj for a very special, very cool group seminar! 4 hrs packed with so many different ideas and concepts that can immediately find impact in our members styles and personal games. More importantly, they were just simply amazing people to have in our space, sharing ideas and plenty of jokes! I can’t wait to have them all back in the very near future!

We’re so lucky to partner with so many amazing families that understand our mission. Learning how to fight is great, so is self defense. Our goal with our teen members is SO MUCH bigger than that. We are 100% dedicated to preparing young men and women for the challenges they’ll face in life and creating a space where they can prepare for those battles in a safe and encouraging environment. Simple seated arm bar position study: Connect to and pin the shoulder line > control near shoulder joint through connection > disconnect defensive grips to segment limbs > force and maintain a state of extension in attacked limb > hyperextend limb to break.

Some of our Coaching staff had an opportunity for some team building time today, capped with some tough rounds. GJJA IS VERY LUCKY to have such dedicated individuals leading our programs and sharing their vast knowledge.
