Kona Global Logistics prioritizes the safety of our O/O and the drivers all year round. We encourage you to mark your calendars for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver July 7-13, 2024. Over this week, law enforcement and authorities throughout North America will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, drunk or drugged driving, etc. Visit the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) website for details.

This year, during Operation Safe Driver, inspectors will focus on reckless, careless or dangerous driving. Visit the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) resources page to learn about the dangers drivers may encounter on roadways.

Please prepare accordingly and ensure your company meets all safety and inspection requirements.

Tomorrow, May 5, is National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (US). (On Sundays, we only post pictures as a break from the heavy content all week, so posting this a day early).

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Social Work program website: "It’s estimated that 4 out of 5 Native women experience some form of violence in their lifetime. Native women also face murder rates more than 10 times the national average. Despite efforts to raise awareness, of the 5,712 cases of MMIWG in the United States, only 116 were included in the Department of Justice (DOJ) database."

The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center (NIWRC) website also states, "These disappearances or murders are often connected to domestic violence, dating violence, s*xual assault, stalking, and s*x trafficking. The intersection of gender-based violence and MMIW is heavily intertwined. It is important to understand the connection between domestic, dating, and s*xual violence and the high incidence of missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) in the United States."

The NIWRC website explains that the day, May 5, was picked because it is the birthday of a 21-year-old named Hanna Harris (Northern Cheyenne) who went missing and was found murdered on the Northern Cheynene Reservation in 2013.

May is also Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Awareness Month. (from ACF website)
