South Sudan African Mission
Establishing New Testament Churches and Extending Compassion to the People of South Sudan. Needs incl
Summary of the week. First to praise the name of the Lord for is #92 baptisms today at Maloucuei Church of Christ as the 39th church of Christ in Aweil area. Massive! This is because of ABC students. They have been in the field for the last one month going door to door in two counties. The result is wonderful, God is merciful for them. Second thing is the school evaluation process by the government whereby there is a mechanism to evaluate the college infrastructure and setting of governance and wellbeing of the volunteers. This is also going on well given our reputation in Aweil and the country for the past years. We pray that all is going great and that we will be able to continue this develop of leaders with evangelical and vocational skills in our community.
Kuot's wife is back to Aweil after a lengthy difficult escape route from the war in Khartoum, Sudan. Thanks to the IDES team and christians in the USA for prayers over the successful evacuation.
Many have inquired about the plight of our friends in South Sudan. Please pray for them!
Shared photos are depictions of South Sudanese and other foreign nationals fleeing the fighting in
According to the foreign minister of South Sudan, over million south sudanese are trapped in Khartoum, most of these people were in the look for jobs, medical services, education and more. Without government plans in place for emergency evacuation or resettlement after escaping war out of Sudan to the South Sudan border. Christians are calling for friends of South Sudan and the fellow christians to help flee South Sudan nationals out of Khartoum, Sudan or by providing temporary shelters, clothing, food, medicine, counselling and transport out of the war to safety zones.
Some of the loved ones who were seeking medical services from some of our local churches are trapped in along with others.
Pray for the victims and their needs as our team on ground stand ready to support the arriving mass of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to border areas of Aweil (Northern Bahr El Ghazal State) which is one of the most accessible states by road from Khartoum.
They say that the warring parties did not give them a break to begin the peace mediation - this war can last for months or even years leaving borderline states like Aweil helpless . Dr. John reports.
Righteousness exalts a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people.Proverbs 14:34 ASV.
With massive sermons and baptisms (of 72 new souls converted to Christ), we commemorate today the Feb 19, 2023, the Official Opening of Loldiing Church of Christ as our 36th Christian New Testament Church planted because of SSAM at Guangnou village in Aweil West County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State (Aweil), South Sudan.
To Further the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the faithful in the context of Apostle John 17:14- 26 ASV, we request your prayers as our number of churches and congregations grow larger and stronger.
Worshipping shelter and benches, children Bible classrooms and textbooks and the bicycle 🚲 for the evangelists are part of the urgent requests/needs by the leadership at this newly opened Church.
Thanks for your prayers. From your right to left is Dr. John, Sister Bev & Dale Meyer, Hon. Yournew, Patrick and his sister Faith with International Disaster Emergency Service and pastor Peter Gatdet. More brothers are likely to join this fellowship at the hotel premises and tomorrow at the field outside Juba town.
Do this (all of you) in the memory of me, Jesus commands the disciples.
(Malek Church of Christ)-15Jan2023
Over 3 months ago Dr. John travelled to the USA and left behind the team to provide services to churches and to the sick at MCH.
On return to services today. There was a postpartum hemorrhage case as an emergency. The pharmacy was depleted of essential medicine due to surging cases of tropical diseases due to flooding and hunger.
We did not have IV fluids and gloves to resuscitate a mother that was near death. Our driver brought about 30 pieces of IV fluids and antibiotics and few more items from our reserved store. And the mother who was unconscious for over two hours secondary to loss of blood post delivery was brought back and now well with her baby. 2 more mothers were assisted to have safe deliveries.
Lack or shortages of essential medicine at the clinic remains a major concern. The improvising of a few items today wouldn't last a week.
This year has been a year of numbers and God's blessings:
- nearly about a thousand and a half total number of baptisms
- 665 newborns safely delivered by our skilled healthcare workers at MCH from January to December 28, 2022.
- 1,569 admissions at inpatient department, and
- 9,525 treated cases at the outpatients department in 180 days (retrieved through quick review of active files).
Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year comes 2023.
We have recorded 1485 baptisms from January to December 2022 alone.
The Malek Church of Christ has united 61 more souls with Christ on December 25th. Pastor Joseph and evangelists from Malek Church of Christ reports.
Praised is the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This year has been good. The Lord's name is Praised. Pastor Joseph baptized 3 more souls to Christ at the River Kueng side from Malek Church of Christ after Sunday service yesterday. This brings a total number of baptisms to 1,424 this year alone.
We received an invitation from our evangelists at D**gabel Church of Christ and we are expecting massive baptism there.
We are requesting prayers so that God provides protection and guidance for the new converts as they grow faithful in Christ.
Praise!!!! Dr. John's visa has been approved. We will have to figure out the details but for now it has been approved! Thank you all for the prayers 🙏
Prayers request:
SSAM and IDES team paid a visitation in January this year to South Sudan.
During the visit, the team toured several villages full of worshiping and mobile medical team treating the sick, the trip was simply amazing.
Dr. John was invited to the USA later in October this year. Unfortunately, the Non-immigrants visa that Dr. John applied for was faced with imminent visa system backlog which delay his appointment to two years in the waiting.
On Friday this week, the July 29, 2022, Dr. John will be meeting with some dignitaries at the United Nations Security Meeting Liaison Office in Juba with an attempt to be added to the country delegation that may come to the States in September, pray that this appointment have with it positive response.
This could be an opportunity for Dr. John to be the first member of local SSAM leaders in South Sudan to visit the United States of America.
Massive worship at Malek Church of Christ as Dr. John preach “Being saved?”. To be saved you must follow these pathways according to the scriptures:
- hear (Rom. 10: 14, 17; Matt. 7:24)
- believe (Heb. 11:6; Mark 16:16)
- have faith, not just faith alone (James 2:24; John 12:42)
- repent (Act 2:38, 17:30; Luke 13:3,5)
- confess (Matt. 10:32-33, Act 8:35-38)
- be baptized (refer to the baptism by immersion)
- continue to live in Christ (Rom. 8:1; Titus 2:11-12; Rev. 2:10).
Praised be His name in the most highest.
Happy Independence Day to my brothers and sisters in South Sudan.
We are in Juneau, AK taking our long planned vacation/cruise from 2020. We went ashore this morning and while visiting a shop, we were asked our employment which of course, led me to tell them about the mission. Before we left the owner's wife handed me an envelope and said, "here's a little something to help out." Inside was $180 cash!! The owner is Hindu and she is from the Czech Republic. I never know where I can talk about SSAM!!
We are saddened to learn of the unexpected passing of Anthony, principal of Aweil Bible College. Please pray for our brothers and sisters as they mourn the loss of Anthony. He will be truly missed.
Today sermons was exceptionally offered by ABC students at Malek Church of Christ, may His name be praised. Amen!
We are exploring options for Dr. John to come to the U.S. October and November. Are their churches or groups that would like to hear first hand about SSAM? Let us know.
Our team arrived home last night from South Sudan. Yournew is doing well and Dr. John is leading the ministry exceptionally well. Here are just a few pictures but look for more in the newsletter.
Randy Jones and David Stine both from IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service), Wayne Rowe our chairman of the SSAM board and Bev will leave Friday from Chicago to go to South Sudan. Please pray that we will all remain healthy, for safety of travels and for our families here in the states. We will return January 12.
Malek church celebrates Dec 25th, congregation waves hands to wish everyone Merry Christmas!
Wayne Rowe and Bev at the International Conference on Missions in Richmond, VA Thursday through Sunday.
Aweil Church of Christ (at our office) congregation waved hands to say thank you to Christians and people in the USA for the newly purchased Troop Carrier for mobile medical clinic and evangelism.
.
We are thankful to God that the new Mobile Medical Clinic New Unit arrived to our coordination in Aweil town today noon after experiencing worse road conditions between Juba - Aweil.
Our team was thankful and grateful about this development with the ministry.
Thanks to all the American people/Christians who have put their contributions and prayers to this success.
God bless you all!
Evangelist Simon Kuac shared a picture of Sunday School children studying gospel songs outside Malek Church of Christ today.
He is praised!
The woman (speaking in Dinka) is calling out for help from government and humanitarian agencies as well as well-wishers to help them have basic necessities, e.g nonfood items to support their living conditions, food, medicine, safe drinking water and to rescue them by supporting their relocation to safe zones. Children and adults risked drowning and hunger as floods washed away their homes and belongings in 8 of the major villages in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state (Aweil).
In similar situation last year, SSAM stood tall with few of the victims who were in similar situation by supporting them with plastic sheets, repair boreholes and secured them safe drinking water, and medical camps were set up to dewormed thousands to prevent diarrhoea disease outbreaks.
If you want to offer prayers and support, talk to SSAM team.

Congratulations to Yournew as he was sworn into the South Sudan Parliment today. May he continue to serves his people in South Sudan.
Happy 10th birthday to South Sudan and our friends there. We ❤ you.
Ezra and evangelists went door to door evangelism. And there were more neighbours who graciously came together and fellowship and souls were won to Christ the Lord. Praised him!

Matuic Church of Christ Congregation.
Through Daniel Deng, SSAM supported the congregation to built grass thatched roof to worship under during rainfalls and sunny days.
Pastor Daniel told us that his congregation is spiritually growing.
This is Paulino’s church, the Chelkou Church of Christ.
On Sunday the March 21st yesterday, the attendance was over 100 members of the congregation. This is the average number, and 60% were reported to be children below the age of 15 years.
Chelkou Church of Christ education ministry have established and supported school at Marialbaai Primary School with 95 students sitting for national examination of primary education this week. Prayers were held for their successful academic performance, let’s remember them in our prayers and God be with them this week.
The church sends their faithful greetings to our friends in South Sudan and in the USA in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, blessings to all who pray and support our ministry, the message forwarded by Paulino reads in part.
Evangelist Morise reports from Malek Church of Christ.
This is what Morise wrote:
“I started following Jesus Christ in the year 2005 after joining fellowship at Malek Church of Christ with caring congregation, together with my brothers and sisters.
I then join ABC in the year 2015 and graduated with a Certificate in Bible and Mission in 2017 (2 years program). Soon after my graduation I started door to door evangelism, and sometime we do this in a group of evangelists and as a result, more lives are converted to Christianity through Christ inerrant Holy Word.
As husband to my beloved wife by name Mary Arek Bol and as a father to our four beautiful children namely (1) Sunday Ateny, (2) Adut Ateny, (3) Bev Atap, and (4) Nyiru Ateny, we are committed servants to our church and our Lord Jesus Christ. I am thanking God for my family and my love life.
As a family we are a member of Malek Church of Christ Congregation/Family, both my mother and my father (who is a retired soldier) are praying together at Malek Church of Christ.
Because of the war, my father took up arms to take to the bush to join the Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) in the year 1983 at a place called Imatong, he later Married there and I was born there. My mother is from a tribe called Boya. Boya is one of the tribes which make up native of Imatong. We are proud of my father in our family as a veteran who fought for our national freedom. During the war period there were very few churches/worshipping places because gathering in one place was not easy. But after peace was signed in the year 2005, evangelization began to increase. Thank God we are making a big movement, a ministry where many lives are brought into Christ. Praise be His name.
I joined Malek Church of Christ when I was a very young boy. I love singing the song of praises to our Lord Jesus Christ, learning from Sunday School and involved in beating the local drums we use during worships in our church.
I love SSAM for the services it is delivering as a mission to the people of South Sudan.
Now that am evangelist, I am looking forward to becoming a pastor within the team of SSAM, God willing.
It is good to note that Malek Church congregation is growing and Sunday mass services is growing (see pictures attached).
Students are actively engaged in the church activities as the study.
I am sending my thank you message to all of you who have been and who are continuing to support the ministry in South Sudan.
God bless you all.

Happy Independence Day #9 to our brothers and sisters in South Sudan.
Thank you to everyone who sent over 500 masks so we could send them to Dr. John in South Sudan. They were shipped today.
It’s Friday but Sunday is coming
In the religious world this week is “Holy Week”. The week that led up to the crucifixion and the horrible death that Christ suffered on the cross so that we could have eternal life. As the disciples (minus Judas) stood at the foot of the cross and watched their leader being beaten, spit on and die the whole world as they knew it was pulled out from under them. They were frightened, discouraged, afraid. It was Friday.
We are in tough times and it is Friday in our lives. Just like the disciples our whole world as we knew it has been turned upside down. Dale and I were supposed to go to Branson to celebrate our first anniversary. Instead we went to a local drive through and came home and ate our burger and fries. We are not the only ones who’s plans have been altered. Overnight it seems we no longer have a job that just yesterday seemed secure but now we are trying to figure out how to make ends meet. Some are thrust into the job of teaching their children that they have no idea how to do. Some have loved ones in a care facility that we no longer can go see and they have no idea why they are not coming anymore. Others have had a love one pass away in a facility all alone with no family member around. Some are trying to figure out how to cook, bake and plan meals for our family while working from home, teaching their children and keeping the house clean all at the same time. For our seniors in high school, the event they have looked forward to for 13 years is probably not going to happen. Yes, it is Friday in our world.
After Jesus’ death on the cross, he was laid in a borrowed grave and the disciples thought this was surely the end. But Sunday came! The gospels tell how Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb thinking they were going to anoint the body of Jesus, but they found the tomb was empty and the body of Jesus was no longer there. Talk about fear and disappointment. But Sunday had come!
Church buildings may be empty with no activities going on but so is the tomb. In our world, it may be Friday, but Sunday is coming! There will still be Easter but not as we imagined it or how it has always been. But when our “Sunday” does finally come, we will go back to work and school, we will no longer need to “social distance”, we will go eat at our favorite restaurants, we will be able to go and stroll through the mall, we will be able to travel, we will be able to get a haircut and we will be able to come back and worship corporately. Some will even be thrilled to hug.
But in the meantime, we need each other’s help to weather this Friday. I am reminded of when we were in Colorado this Fall we were told that the Quaking Aspens have one root system. You can’t plant just one Aspen in your yard and expect it to thrive because it needs more aspens in their community to grow. Let’s be like the aspens, check on one other, send a card of encouragement to someone, call someone, “Ding D**g Ditch” a meal or cookies on the front door of someone and most importantly, let’s pray for one another. We have no expert to ask how to navigate through this “Friday” but we know Sunday is coming and when it does I hope we can get together for the biggest celebration ever.
