Dear Gresham Community,
As we approach the conclusion of the 2024 election season, we, the Mayor and City Council, want to reach out with a message of unity and appreciation. Our council reflects the incredible diversity of Gresham, bringing together people of varied lived experiences and political beliefs. It is this diversity that strengthens our city and makes us resilient.
We are grateful to each of you who participates in the democratic process, exercising your right to vote, and to those who may still be undecided, we hope you reconsider. Voting is a cornerstone of American citizenship and a powerful way to make your voice heard. In Gresham, we are proud to support a community where people from all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome and respected. Our city thrives on peaceful protest and open discourse, and we stand firmly against any form of political violence, intimidation, or threats. This is a standard we hold in the highest regard and ask our community to uphold.
Our community, like our country, has witnessed a shift in political discourse over recent years, not always for the better. Nevertheless, we are deeply committed to fostering an environment where free expression is celebrated and where diverse views are welcomed. The right to peaceful protest and free speech is not only protected by law but is also a deeply patriotic expression of what it means to be American.
No matter the election’s outcome on November 5th, we face an essential task: to come together for the greater good. Gresham’s strength lies in our ability to embrace our differences without allowing them to divide us. We encourage everyone to approach this moment with civility and respect, valuing what unites us as a community.
In the days and months to come, let’s use this moment as an opportunity to recommit to a standard of respectful, constructive dialogue. By doing so, we will continue to build a Gresham we can all be proud of—where every voice is valued, every person is respected, and our shared commitment to community is unwavering.
With gratitude and hope,
Gresham City Council

Council President Sue Piazza

Tomorrow, 10/17, is the Great , the world's largest earthquake drill. While we'll be practicing our drop, cover and holding on skills - we're also working to make sure our community will have the resources needed in case of emergency.
Great tips from Gresham Fire!
Be Fire Safe When Heating Your Home 🧯
Home heating is the second leading cause of home fires in Oregon. As temperatures drop, it's important to stay warm while keeping your home safe. Whether you’re using space heaters, wood or pellet stoves, or other heating devices, be fire safe when staying warm.
☑ Use battery operated candles in place of the real thing
☑Keep candles at least 1 foot away from anything that can burn
☑Keep chimneys free of debris
☑Turn of portable heaters when you leave the room or before going to sleep
☑Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet
☑Give wood stoves and fireplaces some space: at least 3 feet
