NYS Department of Transportation has notified the Town of Guilderland that starts today, Western Avenue (Route 20) from Route 155 to Carmen Road will be reduced to single lanes for the reconstruction of various sidewalk ramps to meet the ADA Standers, the repair of various drainage structures, and a two and half inch mill and fill to replace the existing riding surface.

Eastbound lanes will be reduce to a single lane from 10am to 6pm. Monday through Friday. Westbound lanes will be reduced to a single lane from 6am-2pm, Monday through Friday. Once paving begins, there will be nightly single lane closures from 7pm to 7am, Monday through Friday night.

Health officials are carefully monitoring the ongoing heat wave, and have opened cooling centers throughout Albany County. This list is current and is updated as needed.

The Tawasentha Park pool and the new splash pad are also open on weekdays from Noon to 7pm and weekends from 11:30am to 7pm. The Village of Altamont pool is also open weekdays from Noon to 7pm. Both facilities will be open for Juneteenth.

The CDC has a Heat Risk model, where you can get detailed information about heat risk and air quality based on zip code, and recommended actions to stay cool.

Please do not hesitate to uses these services, and please check with neighbors who could be at risk of heat exposure.

Enjoy an afternoon of holiday fun! Create your own holiday centerpiece decorated with mixed greens, pine-cones, berries, decorations and whatever else you desire. Bring a set of heavy-duty clippers, gloves and any ornaments you want to include. Greens, pine-cones, berries and candles will be provided.

Workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 19th between 1:00pm-5:00pm (please arrive by 4:30pm) at the Guilderland Parks & Recreation Office, 181 state Route 146, Altamont, NY 12009. A charge of $20 per centerpiece. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
