Today, NCBC Gulfport hosted the 9th annual observance of Bells Across America for Fallen Service Members at the base theater.
Each year, Navy installations around the world observe Bells Across America, named for a ceremonial tolling of the bells to recognize the sacrifices of those who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
May we all be reminded that freedom isn't free.

Despite a bit of rescheduling due to Hurricane Francine, NCBC Gulfport hosted a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Sept. 13. The event honored the memory of first responders who died in the line of duty on Sept. 11, 2001.
EVENT RESCHEDULE: 9/11 Stair Climb & 3K Walk or Run. This event has been rescheduled from 9/11/24 to 9/13/24.
Join us as we show our respect and climb the steps to honor our fallen first responders. If you can't climb the steps participants can run or walk our 3k. Please see event image below for more details.

Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport has returned to TCCOR 5. All base services have reverted to normal operations.
💡UPDATE: The galley will open for lunch Sept. 12 at 11 a.m.
NCBC Gulfport is currently planning to open under a two-hour delay on Thursday, Sept. 12. Employees should verify report times with their immediate supervisors. The 28th Street gate will reopen at 7 a.m.
Base services are anticipated to reopen on the following schedule:
- The Child Development Center (Gulfport and Stennis), Youth Center, Fitness Center, Grill, and NEX mini-mart will open at 8 a.m.
- The Visitor Control Center will open at 9 a.m.
- The NEX main store and Navy Federal Credit Union will open at 10 a.m.
- Colmer Dining Facility will resume meal service with dinner Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Conditions will be monitored overnight and openings will be adjusted if needed.
NCBC Gulfport has set Condition of Readiness 1! Please review our updated requirements. No evacuation orders have been directed for NCBC Gulfport at this time! The Pass Road gate may close if 50 mph winds are sustained.
COR I means that destructive force winds (50 mph) are forecasted within 12 hours. Please stay indoors, avoid windows, keep your pets inside and conserve water!
Under COR I, personnel should also:
- Use towels (or sandbags) around doors and windows
- If you lose power, disconnect or turn off all appliances.
- If you smell gas, find where the gas line enters the house and turn the small valve clockwise
- Tune in to radio/TV/social media

Gulfport declares a state of emergency, administrative closure, and curfew ahead of Hurricane Francine. ⚠️
GULFPORT, Miss. (Sept. 11, 2024) — Mayor Billy Hewes has declared a state of emergency for the City of Gulfport due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Francine.
Key Announcements:
Administrative Closure:
All city administrative functions will be suspended beginning at noon today, Sept. 11, 2024. Operations will resume at 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024.
Curfew:
A citywide curfew will be in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, through 5:59 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024.
The curfew is in place solely for public safety due to the approaching severe weather, including strong winds (50-60 mph) and heavy rain. The purpose is to minimize unnecessary travel that could lead to accidents or interfere with emergency response.
If you are commuting to or from work or have another essential reason to be out, you’re allowed to travel. Should you encounter law enforcement, simply explain your situation, and you will be able to proceed. Your safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation during this time.

Yesterday, Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport held a retirement ceremony for BMC Wood, honoring his more than 20 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Navy and our nation. During the retirement ceremony, Capt. Ana Franco, the commanding officer of NCBC Gulfport, presented Chief Wood with the Navy Commendation Medal.
Thank you for a lifetime of service and good luck in your future endeavors!
