During phase 4 of ECS, students get the opportunity to work with the FATS system using air powered rifles and a simulated scenario. This allows the Sailors to track their shot placement and make decisions based on the scenario. This is identified as Judgement Based Engagement Training and allows the Sailor to make a conscious decision of when to shoot and when not to shoot based off of the situation and task at hand.

At the end of the phase 4 week, Sailors participate in Simunitions. They will be placed in teams and given both primary and secondary weapons with paint rounds. During this event they will have different scenarios like working at an entry control point on a forward operating base. They will assess ongoing operations and identify any threats and react if one should present itself.

Safety is paramount at ECS and although during Simunitions Sailors use non lethal rounds, all weapons will be treated as if they are loaded with live rounds and will be cleared between evolutions. All firearm safety rules apply at any time a weapon is handled.

On 23-24 February 2022 , CMDCM Christopher Rebana (II Marine Expeditionary Force), CMDCM Scottie Cox (2d Marine Division), RPCS Russ Dykman, and HMCS Jeff Ramirez made a visit to ECS.

The intent of this visit was to see if ECS could provide expeditionary training to their Navy support rates before check in to their Marine Battalions.

CMDCM Rebana and his team toured all of ECS’s training sites and were very pleased with the amount of knowledge that our Sailors learned during their 4 weeks of instruction. CMDCM exclaimed that he was enthusiastic about our future partnerships.

Pictured with his graduation certificate is LS2(FMF/AW) RonRussell Quijano (2D Marine Logistics Group), who has spent the last 2 years with Medical Logistics Battalion. LS2 Stated that he loved this course, especially phase 3 Rifle Range. LS2 came through the course as a Sailor already under II MEF to provide feedback to command personnel. LS2 stated that it was an excellent course for Sailors of all rates and highly suggests coming through the training.
