Here's a great clip about emotional regulation and how important it is to teach that skill (through our actions) to our children.
Family therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of issues, including relationship conflicts, parenting challenges, substance abuse, mental health disorders, grief and loss, and transitions such as divorce or blending of families. It is a collaborative approach that recognizes the importance of the family system in influencing an individual's well-being and emphasizes the importance of working together as a family to support positive change.
Family therapists typically work with families to identify and understand patterns of communication, behaviors, and interactions within the family unit. The goal of family therapy is to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and foster healthy relationships among family members, ultimately leading to positive changes in the overall functioning and mental health of the entire family.
Box breathing is a breathing technique that involves inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding again, all for equal counts of time. The name "box breathing" refers to the four equal sides of the box, with each side representing a different part of the breathing cycle.
To perform box breathing, follow these steps:
1. Find a comfortable seated position and close your eyes.
2. Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of four.
3. Hold your breath for a count of four.
4. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of four.
5. Hold your breath for a count of four.
6. Repeat the cycle for several minutes, or until you feel relaxed and calm.
Box breathing can help to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and promote relaxation. It is a simple yet effective technique that can be practiced anytime and anywhere, making it a useful tool for managing stress and anxiety in everyday life.

Did you know that exercise can have a positive impact on your mental health? Physical activity has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve mood, and boost overall mental well-being.
Even just a few minutes of exercise each day can make a difference. Whether it's going for a walk, taking a yoga class, or lifting weights at the gym, find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your routine.
Exercise not only benefits your physical health, but your mental health as well.
Sunlight exposure has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and increasing the production of feel-good hormones like dopamine and endorphins. Spending time outdoors in natural sunlight, such as through outdoor activities or simply taking a walk, can have a positive impact on mental well-being and stress management.

We develop patterns as a "shorthand" to make it through similar situations in life. Often, we need to examine how we relate to other people and decide if our own actions are in-line with what we want to achieve.

Karen Walrond and I have been friends for a long time. We laugh a lot and we lean a lot, and when I say lean—I mean into each other. We lean into each other when s**t gets hard.
I called her up the other day and said, “Will you come on the podcast with me? I’m in deep struggle. Things have been so hard personally and the pain in the world is overwhelming. I can’t find my footing.”
Not only did Karen say yes to joining me for last week’s “Unlocking Us,” but then she showed up. I mean, really showed up. She reminded me about the practices that keep us grounded and how we can honor ourselves and the sacred rhythm of activism.
I think you’re going to love this conversation. Thank you, Karen.
