Family Guidance Center
Helping our community navigate life's challenges, including Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault.
Providing the community with Individual and Family Counseling, First Step Domestic Violence Program, Sexual Assault Services, and Youth Services.
Family Guidance Center is pleased to announce that Shelter Home of Caldwell County is broadening their service area to include the provision of domestic violence and sexual assault services for Catawba County starting Friday, August 30th. Shelter Home has 46 years of experience providing DV and SA services and we are glad to know that Shelter Home will provide those same great services to Catawba County.
If you are in need of domestic violence and sexual assault services, you can continue to call the same crisis line numbers that you have previously called until the end of September when you will need to transition to a new crisis line (828) 758-7088.
Domestic Violence – (828) 228-1787
Sexual Assault – (828) 302-6952
Starting Friday, August 30th, trained advocates from Shelter Home of Caldwell County will answer these crisis lines and will provide services to victims. Additionally, Shelter Home will be working with other non-profits in our community for referrals and all domestic violence and sexual assault services for Catawba County.
We greatly appreciate Shelter Home of Caldwell County taking over DV and SA services for our county and we know that they will continue the great service to this community provided by FGC for many years!
We are saddened to announce that after 65 years, Family Guidance Center will be closing our doors at the end of August due to falling revenue.
We are proud of our work in the community for many years and we are appreciative of all of our partners and supporters who have made that possible.
We are committed to ensuring that the vital services we provide will not cease to exist in our community. We will be providing all current clients with information about continued services and we will inform the community in the coming days about how the services we provide will be available in the future.
We are grateful for the decades-long support of our work by our community and we appreciate your continued support in this time of transition. Thank you.

Family Guidance Center (FGC) has been a beacon of support and healing to our community for 65 years. During those years the agency has helped tens of thousands of our friends, neighbors, and family members within our community. In 2023 alone, FGC helped nearly 1,600 survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, over 100 clients with counseling services, and 16 at-risk youth via mentoring.
FGC needs help from the community! Due to falling grant funding, the agency is in dire need of assistance. In order to continue providing support to our community, the agency needs to raise $150,000 over the next few weeks.
How can you help? If you would be interested in partnering with us, please reach out to us at (828) 322-1400 and ask to speak with the Executive Director, Robert Dalton. You can also make a donation directly at our website at www.fgcservices.com.
We appreciate all that our community has done for our agency and those we serve. We now ask that you join with us again so that we can continue to serve our community into the future.
