Mahalo to the Scientists and Staff at DPAA for the incredible opportunity to visit and learn about all you do. A special mahalo to Mrs. Christina for helping coordinate this Summertime NOVA adventure!

Cub Scout Pack 304 let their curiosity lead the way to an exciting discovery at the world-renowned DPAA Laboratory on Hickam 🔬 The DPAA Laboratory, the largest and most diverse skeletal identification lab globally, is staffed by over 150 experts, including anthropologists, archaeologists, and forensic odontologists. Our Scouts saw firsthand the meticulous work involved in this ISO 17025 and AR 3125 accredited facility.

This enriching visit allowed our Scouts to complete some of their STEM requirements for their Cub Scout NOVA awards while deepening their appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of our service members. Proud of our Scouts for their curiosity and commitment to learning! 🔍

Today, to honor their sacrifice, every name was spoken. Every one of the 53,000 graves in the Cemetery received a flag and a lei.
As we sit poolside, BBQ, soak in the sun, please remember at 3pm Monday to take a moment to remember those who have paid the ultimate price. ❤️🤍💙🦅

Don’t forget to take a look at the sky tonight!

The Moon is doing the most: It's a Super Blue Moon!

So-called "super" because it's slightly closer to Earth and "blue" because it's the second full moon in a month. It peaks at 9:36 p.m. EDT on Aug. 30 (0136 UTC on Aug. 31).

Cub Scout Pack 304 will soon have the exclusive S’mores flavor cookies from Hawaii’s own Diamond Bakery for sale. You don’t want to miss out on these delicious cookies that are only available from Aloha Council Scouting units.
Until then, here are some handy tips on how to make your own s’mores 🏕️

"Mmm, yum, I want some more S'MORES at this national park!" 🌳 😃

It’s ok if you fall apart sometimes. S’mores fall a part, and we still love them!

Here are some quick tips to achieve marshmallow perfection:

🔥 For the light golden-brown color and a perfectly cooked interior, you want to find the subtle flames at the base of the fire and be patient. As you can see in the graphic, we’re not doing this.

🔥 Frequently turn the marshmallow as it hovers over the embers rather than the flames. As you can see in the graphic, yeah, not yet.

🔥 While putting a marshmallow over the flames will surely result in what appears to be an extremely fast method to cooking marshmallows (wow, that really caught fire), the quick exposure to intense heat will simply char the outside, leaving the inside still tough and cool (But we all want to be tough and cool, right?) As you can see in the graphic, well, you know.

🔥 When it develops a light brown coating on all sides and appears to be slightly sliding off the stick, quickly transfer it to your prepped s’more base and enjoy!

🔥 Caution. You may be tempted to swing your roasting skewer back and forth at a rapid pace. This may cause your marshmallow to launch unexpectedly, in which it may land on an unsuspecting tree, your car windshield, or a former friends forehead. We repeat, do not launch marshmallows, unless you’re in the car, they are uncooked, and someone was asking for it.

Summary: The best method to prepare a marshmallow, is to be patient and avoid the red-hot flames at the top. (Good general life tip.)

S'more happily and also be sure to follow proper campfire procedures when tending to and putting out your fires. Always drown, stir, feel, and repeat until the area is cool to the touch.

Leave no trace tells us it’s important to “know before you go”. Make sure you’ve got the right gear for your beautiful hikes around the island 🩴

Always hike with proper supplies and equipment. Remember flippy floppies may lead to slippy sloppies.

Gotta watch out for those slippy sloppies! Sloppy slippies? It's always a good idea to research the route and terrain of a hike before you go and identify the right equipment for your trip. Heels, open-toed shoes, and flip-flops are not ideal for hiking. Go for sturdy, rubber-soled hiking boots with ankle support for dirt and gravel trails or tennis shoes or sneakers for paved, urban pathways.

From your experience, what supplies do you recommend?

Scout Scarf Day, celebrated on August 1, honors scouts across the world by encouraging them to step out of the house with their scouts scarf on! But why wear a scarf, you ask? Because a scout’s scarf brings the spirit of scouting into the limelight and also sheds light on the basic everyday life hacks that scouts are taught. For instance, the scarf around the neck is used to protect the body from sunburn and can also be used as a band-aid in situations where a first aid kit is unavailable. Hence, over time, the scouts’ scarf has become a symbol of strength and courage. If you have been holding onto your scouts’ neckerchief, now is the time to sport it!

Way to go AMR Red Hill Pack 304! You made our community proud with your hard work recycling today. Thank you for helping keep these single use bottles out of the landfills!

Photos from Cub Scout PACK 304 AMR/Red Hill's post 12/05/2021

As you probably know our Cub Scout Pack 304 is located in the heart of the AMR Red Hill housing area that is being impacted by the contaminated water. Our Scouts and their families have jumped into action to help reduce the environmental impact of the use of so many single use water bottles being used to help families get clean water.

Please help us by bringing any HI5 recycling to either the AMR Shoppette or the AMR community center. We will transport them to the local recycling centers.

If you need us to come to you please text (406)551-5859 with your address and where the recycling is located.
