Aloha to my friends and colleagues,

It is with such honor and excitement that I share with you the release of my latest musical project, A Legacy of Hawaiian Song & String, Volume One. This album was made in collaboration with Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings, a 501(c)3 dedicated to the research, restoration, and celebration of Hawaiian & Pacific music and luthiery traditions.

It has been seven years since my last album, during this time I went back to school and pursued a music degree at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. I also explored ways to contribute to our Hawaiian communities and through that discovery I was given an opportunity to serve as a program coordinator at the Queen Liliʻuokalani Trust. Currently I am also a part-time lecturer at the Windward Community College under the Hawaiian Music certificate program, teaching Hawaiian Singing. I am truly blessed to learn more about my craft and ways that I can grow to not only perpetuate, but reclaim these ideologies in which we as Hawaiians strive to know and believe.

It is through A Legacy of Hawaiian Song & String, that I am able to express my passion and love for Hawaiian music, and the profound musical vision which our aliʻi and kūpuna made manifest for the people of Hawaiʻi, and the world.

I hope you enjoy this gift of music and that with your support, we can share this enduring Legacy of Hawiian Song & String with the world.

Twilight at Kalāhuipuaʻa

One of the greatest hidden gems in Hawaiian experience is located here at the Eva Parker Woods cottage located just a few step away from the shore here at Mauna Lani.

I would have to say that this is one of my most favorite venues. I love the intimacy of gathering with malihini and kamaʻāina in a spontaneous exchange of stories and music. You never know what you’re going to get! Lots of surprises and everything is unrehearsed.

This trip was extra special, Mom and Dad came, my husband as well as Uncle Pekelo and Aunty Aileen. They shared stories, dance and of course daddy shared his beautiful leo. An unforgettable evening. Mahalo to ʻAnakala Danny and ʻAnakē Anna for their unwavering hospitality and true aloha. Mahalo to Keola Grace and Kapono Lopes for their genuine talents and charm that made the evening so enjoyable! Mahalo to everyone who came!

We recently had the pleasure of seeing Kaʻiulani perform during the Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School Concert & Hōʻike, including a song she composed during the Mele Kukui program, under the mentorship of Raiatea Helm, Izik, Keilana and Moleta. Just as we loved hearing her leo then, she won us over with her acapella rendition of "For the Lāhui" by Josh Tatofi Music and The Kumu Hina Project. Kaʻiulani comments, "I chose to sing this song because it provides a sense of pride and strength for our Lāhui."

Super excited for next weekend’s concert with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. Also featuring Keilana, Izik and Liam. Grateful to have Wailau Ryder, Kapono Lopes, and Pono Renaud as my Hawaiian trio!!!! Tickets still available, would love to see you all there. Mele Hawaiʻi accompanied by an orchestra creates a whole new feeling! Today was the start of Mele Kukui and I am in complete awe from the energy that was created between these artists and the ʻōpio. Mahalo Ke Akua for making the magic within these voices resonate in where it truly needs to be. I could see the glow in every haumāna today, something you cannot plan for, just total divine synchronicity. I mahalo my teammates for making sure our ʻōpio arrived in the space safely and for making sure things ran smoothly before and after! And to the parents for supporting their keiki, means the world! Don’t give up on your kids, they all have a light that may be dimmer than some. They need love and attention, so honored to be here for the legacy of Liliʻuokalani continues.

Our LT Mele Kukui Program is about to happen and we’re filled up! I couldn’t have done it with out the good Lord! Also, the vision of Liliʻuokalani these opportunities would not be possible! The many hands in putting this program together, I could not do it without my LT teammates! I am so excited that I get to work with some pretty amazing Hawaiian artists that will continue to move mountains using their gifts! This is just the beginning of more to come!
