Throwback message from my middle school yearbook.

One assignment I give my clients who struggle with self-confidence and who over-emphasize past negative experiences is to go back and find positive memories and experiences in their past instead of dwelling on the negative.

It’s a total mindset shift for most of them.

I encourage you to do the same. Shift your mindset to focus less on the trauma and more on the good and more good will be attracted to you.

Mary Ellen Pleasant was one of the first Black Millionaires. According to some sources, she was a former slave. She had investments in oil, real estate and operated boarding homes for freedmen and women. She was a servant leader who provided social services to African Americans before and during the Civil War. After the Civil War, she won several civil rights victories that resulted in her being called "The Mother of Human Rights in California".

Although Dr. Anne Cooper was born into slavery, she became the 4th Black Woman in America to earn a PhD. She became well known for her contributions to Social Science.

Moral of the story, it’s not your history but your destiny that matters. Your past prepared you for your present and future success.
