“Dr. Treangen is an exceptional researcher with excellent bibliometrics,” said Chris Jermaine, chair of Rice’s Department of Computer Science. “He works in a very timely and hot research area — especially given the COVID-19 pandemic.” He also refers to Treangen as an "educational leader" in the field of computer science and praises him for being an excellent teacher.

Congratulations to Luay Nakhleh on winning Rice's George R. Brown Award for Superior Teaching! Nakhleh's best-known class was always Comp 182. Alumni have acknowledged the impact he had teaching that course by voting to recognize him as a top Rice instructor.
This is Nakhleh’s second time to win the Award for Superior Teaching, having previously won in 2020. In 2019, he won the university’s most prestigious teaching award, the George R. Brown Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

The publication used several criteria to evaluate candidates: average undergraduate GPA of incoming students, the program’s acceptance rate, one-year retention rates, graduation rates and the number of applicants each program received in the 2023-24 academic year.

Baylor College of Medicine and Rice University researchers have introduced a new method, Taxa4Meta, to identify gut bacteria associated with diarrheal disease. Their new findings have been published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation. This tool represents a new “best practices” approach for more accurate diagnoses.
Researchers included Qinglong Wu, Shyam Badu, S*k Yu So, and Dr. Tor Savidge along with Professor Todd Treangen from Rice’s Department of Computer Science.
